Agree Berona.......with what we've been told it really doesn't add up at all...

No doubt we may learn more after the inquest.

SHE DIDN'T BREACH PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY FGS!!!

Nurse Jacintha Saldanha was found dead days after taking the hoax call and putting it through to a nurse on Kate's ward, who divulged private information about her treatment.

CAN YOU READ???

Please get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions and slapping them all over GR. There are other sites you can do that on and they will welcome you with open arms.

Muffyxx Report 8 Dec 2012 23:04

Agree with you to a degree Sue..there's no doubt in my mind that this lady was the one who had a very brief discussion initially and put the call through to the ward.....I have no idea about hospital procedure but it doesn't seem to me that she could have breached security just by doing that..or breached patient confidentiality.

If she wasn't being disciplined..hadn't been publically named......then I struggle to understand the eventual outcome even more....we'd probably never be aware of who she was to this day had this not happened..we fortunately don't know the name of the other nurse.

I don't trust the press.or what they report..so I take much of it with a pinch of salt..don't trust the media as far as i could throw them...it's that old thing though.....if something smells wrong and it doesn't make sense......then .there's probably something rotten being hidden..and sue you know i'm like a jack russell down a rat hole once i get the scent...it may just be the press doing what the press does best..but i'll always question stand alone anomalies when they're presented to me x

I appreciate that you are exactly the same as me Muffy with a 'nose' for some press reports and we have both colaborated and agreed on many cases.

I'm just sick to the back teeth of some people perpetuating the untruth (that's mild) that the poor woman was responsible for breaching anything, she wasn't!

We all know the press would have got hold of her name at some point and I'm not even going to speculate that they already had. Money prises many sealed lips apart!

The woman is dead, her family have enough to deal with without some 'sheep' bleating on about her betraying her patient when there has been NO confirmation of this and, in fact, entirely the opposite.

We both know the press will be digging for dirt 24/7 and if they find she underapid her taxes by £1 in 2008 they'll will be on it PDQ.

I would like people to show her the respect she deserves until and if anything official is released which may alter my view, which appears to be the minority at the moment.

Muffyxx Report 8 Dec 2012 23:58

For my part I lay NO part of the blame at the door of the nurses........controversially I don't at the door of the DJ's either..but i think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one flower lol. I think ultimately the nurses were VERY badly served in this..I firmly believe that procedures should've been in place and I hope that if nothing else security is tightened up so this never can happen again.

I still maintain that no one individual could be held responsible for anothers actions...and feel it's harsh that others are being scape goated for something where no one could've foreseen the dire consequences....pranking has gone on for years without this outcome so there was no reason to believe it would happen in this case.

It was a crap prank as it turned out......but professionals should be well able to be able to detect them.....again not the fault of the nurses involved.....imo a failure from management in the training and understandings of procedures.None of this of course will restore this poor ladies life.......but I hope that as a result of the discussions no one else is ever put into this impossible situation x

Without defending the DJ's they are living their own hell now. Young, silly and with no idea what the consequences would be - they are sure paying the price now.

I'll always agree to a disgreement with Muffy without any nastiness. We are poles apart on the procedural lapse, or not, at the hospital.

Sometimes people phone me and I struggle to work out who it is and I know them. I had a dodgy line to son a few months ago and he kept asking who I was. We don't know what the reception was like in the UK (we only heard the Aus side of the call), we don't know if there was background noise when she answered the phone. All we do know is she passed the call to another nurse on the right ward. We don't know where the night line phone was located, it my have been to one of the nurses' stations and she had patients to care for. We know bugger all.

Berona Report 9 Dec 2012 04:54

Yes, I can read, dangersprout. Also, I stand corrected . I have read so many different reports on the matter, that I can only go by what I read and see on TV, whereas, you seem to have all the facts. Are you a journalist? Or perhaps you knew the lady personally, for you to be so sure. I wonder how you, too, are not as misinformed as I am, if your knowledge came from the same sources as mine did.

You say that the nurse was found "days" after the call. How many days? Once again, I'm confused. However, we are only offering our thoughts here.
There is no need to be nasty and insulting about it.

Its reported by BBC ----------The call was pre-recorded,,,,,,,,then broadcast by the Sydney radio station.

The BBC online uk, through what ever seedy means have now published a photograph of this poor woman. and no doubt its plastered all over our media rags------nice to see they are obliging the family wishes to be left in private.!

dangersprout, You posted above,

Please get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions and slapping them all over GR. There are other sites you can do that on and they will welcome you with open arms

and: I'm just sick to the back teeth of some people perpetuating the untruth

I take it that you have all the facts?

We can only pass comment on what we see and read in the media, So what makes your sources more factual and true

If your sick of reading posts on this thread then may i suggest you stop reading them yourself rather than telling other members what they can and cannot post on GR or do you also hold a position of authority at GR head office

It seems to me that several people are confusing the two nurses.
The lady who died was NOT the one who divulged information & was in no way responsible for the debacle.
I know nothing about her or her circumstances, but feel that she probably had other severe problems & being inadvertently involved in this was the final straw.
This is always supposing that she DID commit suicide.....something which no one will know until after the inquest & should be of interest only to her family.
Who is to say that she didn´t have a health problem & that her unexpected death is not just coincidence?
This in no way excuses the stupidity of the people who played the prank in the first place.

Berona Report 9 Dec 2012 09:01

I wasn't going to bother coming back to this thread after being asked if I could read and accused of 'jumping to conclusions and spreading it....etc.etc' (two posts??) but after being corrected on the issue of two nurses being involved, I have this to say......

Why don't we wait until all investigations are complete and we have the REAL facts, before making any more speculations? It is possible that the lady's death might not have had anything to do with the call. Has anyone thought of that?

Whatever the outcome.........let us wait for it.
We are merely contributing to the media frenzy by continuing to talk about it. Journalists love it. They don't care about people - just stories.

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 9 Dec 2012 09:23

It's the media that said their was 2 nurses involved,

the statement from the BBC royal correspondant reported that she was the nurse who put the call through but i have not seen the hospital confirm this, If anyone has then they could post the link,

BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said he understood Mrs Saldanha - who was staying in hospital accommodation close to King Edward VII hospital - was the person who answered the call from the Australian DJs and was not the nurse who discussed the duchess's medical condition

The 2 men in suits (one) of them was the King Edward VII chief executive John Lofthouse said she was the victim of the hoax?
In a statement outside the hospital, King Edward VII chief executive John Lofthouse said: "We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital.

so was she the nures who gave the info or the nurse who put the call through?

Guinevere Report 9 Dec 2012 10:04

She was the nurse who put the call through according to all the media this morning.

She was a victim of the hoax because the person she spoke to lied to her about who was calling.

On a more general point it's time we the public stopped looking at humiliation as a form of entertainment.

I don't watch or listen to that sort of show because they make me cringe but enough do for the DJs to think it was ok to do what they did. And it wasn't.

Just been reading this from BBC this morning. One word that rang loud in my ears (its in the link below) last night listening to the news was was "humiliated"......the poor lady was humiliated. It does'nt have to be anything other than humiliation and humiliation is a very strong feeling.
Its still reported as "apparent suicide"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20656911

Perhaps we can leave the agro on here for now and wait for the outcome of the inquest.

Oh dear, my sources are Sky News, BBC, and many UK and overseas newspapers. All available to anyone with access to the www.

These reported the statement from the hospital that the nurse who died did not give out any information on Kate's condition merely transferred the call.

How much clearer to do you want it?

Roy you have answered your own question but I'll give you a foreign press link:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/9732337/Hospital-bosses-turn-against-radio-show-for-humiliating-nurses.html

No Berona I am none of those things .The quote containing the word 'days' was from the news agencies. From that how on earth would I know whether 'days' means 2, or 3? How would anybody?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/dec/07/kates-admission-hoax-nurses-death-timeline

My anger was caused by some people stating that the nurse who has died divulged information and she didn't! Also speculation that she may have been on night shift and took medication which caused her demise.

We do not know anything other than the bald FACTS.

I shall post wherever I choose to, I will also put facts up for consideraion and challenge supposition.

Sue

Edit: Jude what a good idea

:-D

Cannot see it happening whilst people want to have their speculation published for heaven knows what purpose.

Berona Report 9 Dec 2012 10:51

That radio station isn't far from where I live, so if the call was received at 5am, it would have been 4pm here. I don't listen to the station at all as it caters mostly for the very young adults and obviously, at that time, would be catering for students after school.

I understand that the two DJs felt so sure that Security would prevent them from getting past the switchboard, that they had very little prepared to say and just fooled around, being silly. Now that the situation has taken a tragic twist, they have both gone into hiding and are receiving counselling.. Whilst the very young may be supporting them on FB, etc.....most of the people in the country are appalled by what their behaviour may or may not have led to.

Berona, they are running news items here about the backlash, the latest being that some advertisers have withdrawn their business from the radio station.

I am not a fan of all the vitriol being poured on the two on the web, some of it is quite frankly disgusting.
