he was 89, I am sure we all watched 'The Sky at night' at some point in our lives, fascinated by the subject and his knowledge and enthusiasm for the stars and space.

he played a mean xylophone too :-)

RIP.

Always felt it was so sad that his fiancee died during the Blitz and he said he had never looked at another woman since. They will be reunited now.

How sad

Half the time I didn't understand what he was talking about :-S

But his enthusiasm was so so sincere and genuine that I'd watch him anyway a man of great knowledge

Very sad, but he was a good age and I'm sure that he was content with his life.

He certainly was responsible for fuelling my love of astronomy and science in general and he was an absolute inspiration to several generations of young people. Sadly missed but fondly remembered. A hard act to follow.

So sorry to hear of Patrick's passing away.

For me he was always the very knowledgable, if not slightly eccentric older uncle, whom everyone loved!!

Sleep well Patrick!!

He had a varied life,,,,,,including being a teacher,

About 15 years ago I along with others in a party visited Patricks house in Selsey,an overstuffed place with mountains and mountains of books, including many he had also written, heaps and heaps of papers, maps etc ,,,,,,his housekeeper was not allowed to touch any of it in his wood panelled study, just an odd occasional flick with a feather wand..we all had a view through his very expensive telescope in his garden,it was a lovely visit,,,,but poor old Patrick just lacked any sense of humor and laughter had passed him by,,,!!!,great great man...and feel privliged to have met a world great in his field....

he could play the panio and xylophone both self taught,

What a wonderful memory and experience for you Kay.

Back in the 1970's he had a meeting to discuss being a lecturer on a Cruise Ship. The other person in the room said that he was totally captivated by Patrick Moore's enthusiasm for his subject..... and totally wrung out after the experience :-)

Some of our carers also cared for him on a private basis.

He used to pedal around Selsey on a rusty old bike. i think this was after his rusty old Vauxhall had given up the ghost.
