Our local secondary school closed last Monday and Tuesday for an inch or so (well. less than two) of snow because they were short of staff. |

We live in a city and don't get anywhere near as much snow as other areas but schools close at the 1st sign of a snowflake, these tend to be the primary schools whose pupils tend to be within walking distance from the school. |

Aye, we were all a lot tougher then. I lived on Tyneside as a kid, and remember wading nearly a mile through deep snow to get to school. In Norfolk, the schools seem to close at the first snowfall, probably cos' the Mummies don't like getting the car out in 2 inches of snow! |

I dunno .... remember when I was in school at this time of year, wading through knee high snow enroute, and thinking nothing of it as it happened almost every year (1960's and into 70's). These days, quarter of an inch of snow and the country grinds to a standstill !! |

My Sister lives on Exmore and always gets snowed every year electic lines and phone lines coming down. Her village has no shop so villagers pull together and cook each other meals but children cant get to school cos in the heavy snow the trees come down, but I cant understand the tv never say anything about Exmore. |
