"The "very excited" Spice Girls have been reunited in London's West End for the opening night of Viva Forever! - a stage musical built around their songs."

Posh Spice was "fashionably late". That was disgraceful for one of the most important events in recent pop history.

Just another over hyped and overpaid singing group producing lightweight throwaway pop.

Probably had more influence than talent

My opinion.

I always thought they were dreadful and only one of them can actually sing in tune.

They were a manufactured band with little or no musical talent whatsoever. They made a lot of money out of gullible young girls, though, with all the merchandising and "girl power". I just wish they'd disappeared like other manufacted pap does.

I heard that Cher will be joining them

She will be known as "Old Spice"

The Spice Girls are the best selling girl group of all time, and second to the Beatles, so someone liked them. Music is personal, if YOU like it, enjoy it, if you don't turn it off. Also Melanie Chisolm is an accomplished songwriter and actress now, so not all off them were tuneless.

Best thing about them for me are the memories they bring back, our foster daughter who was a spectacular dancer aged just 8, cleared a dance floor at a wedding, when a Spice girls record came on, people were amazed at her dancing skills.

She died aged just 18, but for the memories I have when I hear a Spice girls record, I thank the Spice Girls.

I did say one of them could sing, Lynda, and I meant Mel C.

My problem with them and the man who invented them (Simon Fuller) is the exploitation of young girls who begged their hard up parents for all the Spice merchandise. It was brilliant marketing, though, you have to hand it to Simon Fuller, absolutely brilliant. Just lacking in any substance.

Yes, Mel C has a good voice but when they sang at the olympics I thought they were not even as good as they used to be (and didn't like them then either.) But, as Lynda says, music and singing is subjective, because I don't like them, doesn't mean others can't.

I think it's time they departed for good. They've had their day, and will never make a successful comeback.

Wouldn't give them house room way back then or now.

Apparently Victoria turned up with her family for the premier of Viva Forever and refused to be photographed with the rest of the 'band' only allowing to be photographed with her family. Like the Olympics, she made a quick get away as soon as the show was finished.....seems like she considers herself to be far too rich and important to be seen mingling with the others. 'If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends......Isnt that what she 'sang' and pointed her finger down the lense at back then.

Ann, Have amended OP. Sorry, but you probably know why I was a bit sensitive this morning.

Lovely to see all these comments. Must admit that, when they started, I got the same raw thrill that I got when the Beatles sang "Help" and Please Please me" back in 1960's. They seemed such fun.

I agree that Mel C is a lovely girl, full of talent. Posh spends a lot of time in protecting her image (she never wanted to be confused with Peterborough United FC). I think she was the shy one, and possibly shyness might make her seem a bit aloof and stand-offish. :-)

I saw that Jennifer Saunders wrote it...wonder if it has a hint of comedy in it?

Whether you love them or hate them...they were no worse than some of the groups I liked in my teens and a lot better than the rubbish my kids like today

Hmmmm, don't know about the 'very excited Spice Girls' John....more like 'the very excited Spice Girls except one'.
The sour puss who cannot raise a smile for love nor money didn't look in the least bit excited, in total contrast to the other girls who looked the picture of fun and happiness. Ol' sour puss turned up late, stayed most of the time with her family, didn't appear to want much to do with the others - thereby hangs a tale I'd say.

Agree with Karen, she cannot smile because then the cheeks she permanently sucks in will pop out ;-) that or the bloody lemon she sucks will :-D

JohnLovesHorlicks

JohnLovesHorlicks Report 13 Dec 2012 08:48

Well, I'll give Posh the benefit of doubt. I quite like girls who suck a lemon and pull their cheeks in. Home Secretary is also a member of that club. As is Mrs Ed Balls (Yvette?).

I think Posh just has a very different personality to other 4. And probably that mix helped the Spice Girls to be so successful. She attracted old Beckham after all - and I'm sure he could have had his pick in those days. And she has kept him, through a couple of very public marital tiffs.

Oh dear, arguing again. Please leave OP alone, whoever you are. Just report this post - pleeease :-D :-D
