They must have better marketing and/or advertising?

I lived in Adelaide until 1986, with rellies near the Barossa Valley & the Southern Vales. The big wineries can afford the cost of heavy advertising, but many of the smaller wineries have wine just as good.

Mum in law is in Victoria, she lives next door to a winery! We used to go there, but as they've grown, so have their prices. :-(

I'll probably be hung drawn and quartered for this, but although Margaret River is a very nice country town, and one I really enjoy visiting, it is very much overated in the wine stakes.

Many areas in WA produce wine equal to, or superior to, MR :-(

A few months ago we won a meat tray in a raffle (yes, country towns in NSW still have meat raffles at pubs & clubs).

We got the last prize (winners pick their tray), which looked horrible. A big lump of meat, no idea what it was. OH swore there was a tyre mark across it, he kept saying it was roadkill.

Got it home, unwrapped it (about 6 layers of cling film), and found a 2Kg piece of Angus Beef! It was bl**dy beautiful! Melt in the mouth.

I know what you mean about tourists........ we won't be leaving town for the next few weeks. :-\ The next town to us is already over-run with grey nomads, backpackers, hippies and a few city yuppies "slumming it" :-(

lol Scozz, we wanted a change from road kill, it is Christmas after all : and with all the people travelling through here on the way from Perth to Margaret River, we'd probably end up as road kill ourselves :-D

No buffalo or crocodile available, cos the tourists in the top end are getting it all.

We're going out later, hunting............ will look for some roadkill on the Pacific Highway. Might get some nice 'roo with "moving rice" :-D

Failing that, we'll wait for neighbour to go out........ and see if his free-range chickens wander (if they're in our garden, they're ours!) :-0

Damn... and I ate the guinea pigs which I'd been fattening up for Christmas dinner early as I thought we wouldn't be having a Christmas this year

yes and today when someone told me that the end of the world was near,i was really pi--ed off,because last night i spent £210 on christmas food to feed 12 :-D :-D

That means I will have to go out and buy a new larder fridge tomorrow as mine has died ,oh dear.
