~`*`Jude`*`~ Report 22 Dec 2012 11:52

As some of you may know l had problems when l posted grandson advent calender,, had it weighed/priced properly to have it arrive at destination with extra £2.30 to pay....WELL this morning son says the same has happened with grandson Christmas card (and will happen with Granddaughters too). Again at the post office it would'nt go through the letter box thing, so he said we would have to pay 90p instead of 50p.....Son told he has to pay another £1.50, because its not letter post...GRRRRRRRR. l am so upset, the cards took me ages to make and feeling really rough all week with toothache and cold/cough....this has just made bawl me eyes out:((((

Used Special Delivery on 19th Dec - guaranteed to be there before 1.00 p.m. on 20Dec. Arrived 11.15 on 21 Dec. Refunding the cost of £5.70 but not point. They were important papers which is why I used Special Delivery.

Emma....so sorry about that, do hope it arrives soon!!

Chris....l possibly would have done the same, but it was Vic who posted them, plus he was told all was ok. l spose l'm under parr at the moment , they would have been dealt with nearly a week ago if l'd been ok:((

PS.... the Post office is still a disgrace!!

Jude, you really need to get that sorted. You need the original envelopes if possible and you need to take them in to the post office that they were posted at. You need to tell them about the extra that has had to be paid. Someone, somewhere is not doing things right. It could be your end or son's end.

What size was the envelope for the card. A5 or larger? If it is thick it should be weighed before posting. Might be worth asking for proof of posting in future and asking son to keep the envelopes if there is a problem.

I know it´s Christmas, but a card franked in England 4th December arrived here in Spain on the 19th.
Won´t be long before we have to start posting in September in the hope they will arrive on time.

Jude, how annoying and upsetting. The postage has never been clear since the Royal Mail brought in the blasted changes which accounted for size in addition to weight!

If counter staff can't get it right what hope is there for the public?

Jude - don't bame Vic. OH was told I could track my envelope - A4 one with 4 sheets in it!

Well I could track it - only it said same thing 'in transit - on track to be delivered before 1.00p.m. on 20th!'

Rang afternoon of 20th hung on for 25 mins to be told in had arrived in the local sorting office! Rang yesterday - to be told it had finally arrived at 11.15 a.m. that morning.

Only consolation we have that it has reached its destination which the first lot sent 3 Dec did not.

I sometimes wonder if its the Postal areas or attitudes in certain places that cause the problems. I have ordered things from Scotland and they have been delivered within24hrs.I ordered something from London ,Choice of postage £1.50 ( Get it if and meybe),or £6.50. Delivered by 9am next day. It Was. Sadly thats the way of the world now.**M**.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Dec 2012 14:00

8x8 is larger than letter size Jude so would have had to be weighed and stamped under a different 'scale'.

Are you saying the two cards for your grandchildren didn't have excess postage? That is good. Just the advent calendar that was wrong then? :-D

Hello from down under....this year I had the privelige of returning to Scotlabd and Ireland. My ish friends went totally out of their way to look after us while there, so on return i bought some NZ greenstone ( pendant and earrings)...total NZD 90...app 45GBP. The envelope was an a5, and weight was miniscule. the package was labelled a gift. Imagine my disbelief when I get an email saying it has arrived but in order for them to collect it they had to pay £27:37! £13:87 for import VAT, and £13:50 for Clearance fee. How can that be justified? If this is common for incoming gifts from overseas....the rakeoff the Post Office/Government gets must surely help reduce the countries debt. Here in NZ and Australia there are literally 1000s of expats who would be posting parcels back home. How is it justified?
Cheers from down under...
Have a great Christmas all :-(

Anything from outside the "Eurozone" is charged VAT. it stinks ,as most times they are gifts, but the Inland revenue couldnt care less ,they have to have their pound of flesh. Have a nice Christmas Everyone, **M**.
