Thank you for your kind thoughts.
We (her chldren) are a bit stunned, and not quite sure what to do next.
She was sent to a nursing home on Wednesday, by her doctor.
As it wasn't a hospital, we were concerned, but alarm bells didn't ring, and one of my brothers was trying to make arrangements to go out to Portugal.
Yesterday she was rushed to hospital with a serous infection - she should have been sent there on Wednesday.

She died last night.

Her good friends have been keeping us informed, and have very kindly offered to organise things out there.

There's got to be an autopsy before any form of funeral/cremation, and we don't know at which point we should go out there. My time is limited, as I work, and we know, at one point, all four of us will have to go out to sign forms etc.

Mum had been trying to sell her house since her husband died last year, and came over here for the summer. She only went back for the winter as the house wasn't sold, and was going to return to England for good in February - whether or not the house had been sold.

So sorry to hear your news Maggie, what an awful shock, especially at Christmas. My thoughts are I would wait until you can make arrangements for funeral etc as you need to conserve your leave. Do you get compassionate leave?

Maggie...l am so sorry to read this, you must all be in a turmoil right now. Go with your gut feeling and go out there when you think its right, you should also be allowed compassionate leave!!

So sorry to hear this, Maggie, what an awful time for you and your family. My Mum died on the Summer Solstice, but at any time of year it is hard to bear.
