finding children

Does anyone have a way of finding out the names of children that were born in a marriage with only the data from the marriage certificate?.

If after around 1912 go to FreeBMD enter the fathers surname only and the mothers surname only then hit the search button, then to shorten the search parameters do the same again and then put in an area you know they came from this should give you some idea of children born.

Prior to the 1912 date no mothers surnames are on the records

But FreeBMD should be your first port of call.

Also baptism records could help.

I dont use the records here but just tried searching using my parents surnames without putting in any dates and got over 49k matches :-S

My maiden name is unusual but my mums name is common so it listed all of her surnames aswell.....I got there in the end by narrowing down the search by putting in 1965 +/- 10 years and myself and my sister were top of the list.

Your local records office has the BMD's for the whole of the country - that's England, for the English records, Scotland for the Scottish records etc up until about 6 months ago.

It's free to join, just turn up with a form of identification (passport/driving licence) and a utility bill.
