Julia Report 26 Dec 2012 14:21

Not only were the story lines not going where the actor who plays Matthew, wanted them to go, but I read, in a "popular tabloid", that he fancies his chances across the big pond.
Fellows must have had to write in Matthews' end, rather quickly, as it was only in the last couple of months, that I read about this snippet. Well done to him. It was certainly kept very quiet.

I have to agree with GIN his eyes were open but he was bleeding from the ear I pray he isnt dead but I suspect he is, I also agree with our MG, you could sort of predict the way it was going to pan out but not the ending I was so upset .....yes I know its only pretending but fair play to the cast's acting skills , they reeled me in :-( :-0

I also read a short while ago that Matthew was going to die in WW2 and that Julian Fellowes has planned to stop writing Downton at this point in time.

Shame I really liked his character.

Looking forward now for the new series.

His eyes were open so I don't think he was unconcious, but I do hope I'm wrong. What an awful end to Christmas Day, and he looked so overjoyed to be a Dad.

Janet Report 26 Dec 2012 12:38

I read weeks ago about the potential spoiler that the actor who plays Matthew thought the storylines were not his idea of where the story should go. It wasn't made clear whether or not he would definitely leave and I thought the ending last night left the same impression. Was he dead or just unconscious ?-jl

Hi everyone

It's not often we fail to see what's going to happen next but

Matthew didn't see it either

How sad was that

I really lurve Downtown, and have been a fan since the start.

However, some of the storylines seem to be signposted before they actually play out on the screen.

That flightly little housemaid was bound to cause trouble..............Grocer was bound to break Mrs Pattmore's heart.

Ooooop in Scotland, Lady Edith is heading for heartbreak with her Married Man. Lady Rose will cause no end of trouble when she comes to live in Downtown.

Thomas will still continue to be shifty, and O'Brien will be scheming still.

Not enough lines from Dowager Violet, [she was probably filming] but the lines she DID have, hilarious.

I was thinking to myself that Delicious Dan was driving too fast. But did not want him to be brown bread.

No doubt the newly widowed and the widower will 'grow closer'.

Those little niggles aside, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
