Export Your Family Tree Not Working :-(

There are other problems with the GEDCOM file you may have noticed.

The GEDCOM file is a text file and can be viewed in Notepad. If you examine your GEDCOM file you will notice that a year stored as, say, c. 1980 in your tree is recorded as DATE 1980 in your GEDCOM file. This in incorrect, it should be DATE ABT 1980, to conform to the correct GEDCOM syntax.

This means that if you import your GEDCOM file into a family history program you won't see c 1980, just 1980.

I complained about this omission about 6 months ago. It would be simple to fix it (I am a programmer) but nothing has been done despite promises from GR.

My tree also stuck on 'export pending' - for about a day. Decided I should update the offline version asap given the major problems GR have been having with the tree. Have also reported to support but have had no acknowledgement or reply. Having used the site since 2003 with little problems, now getting very, very annoyed about the number of outages the tree has been having over the past few months.

I cannot export mine either. It just sticks stating "Export Pending"

The ability to export the tree is not working, and that has been the situation now for the past 24 hours, well for me it has anyway :-(

It looks like that when the tree problems occurred yesterday this part of the system got locked and it needs to be fixed asap. I have reported it to support but no feed back as yet to when the problem will be fixed

I for one will not be doing anything on my tree until this is fixed because if I cannot back up to a GEDCOM file I could possibly loose any new stuff I add. Sorry Genes Reunited but I have not seen anything said over the past week that that has given me any confidence that the tree problems have now been fully resolved. Having worked and been involved in implementing several sophisticated computer systems over many years, I know only to well how wrong things can go, the best laid plans of mice and men, and I just have this nagging feeling that the whole tree thing is going to end up corrupted.

One of the hallmarks of a well run organisation is "Communication" and that I am afraid to say is something that is sadly lacking on here :-( we deserve better so be up front with us and tell us when this saga will end, please.
