Now managed to export the Gedcom! Yay! Just in time for my (rescheduled due to the site problems here last week) visit to GROS/Scotlands People tomorrow. Do wish they'd announce it or let you know when things are fixed, instead of having to check for at least a week to see if the thing you want to use works...

I'll try again tomorrow when the site will be less busy ...I'd like an up-to-date Gedcom before I add anything else to my tree.

I have been a member for several years and am still fumbling. I see GR have apologised for the inconvenience of the site being down over the holiday period. Do we get our money back for the times this happens? So inconvenient and expensive.

Daniel,

It is ridiculous and the lack of information from those in charge is to put if politely, (don't you wish you could swear on the boards), abominable.

Yesterday I was at long last I was able to work on my tree and made some adjustments to dates and places of birth, death, etc.

I could not back my tree up after double checking everything was correct because of the absence of the Gedcom facility.

I logged on this morning only to find that all my work was a a total waste of time as all the dates and notes that I made on individuals details have disappeared overnight.

I know everything was there last night because I double checked before I logged off :-(

day eight of the gedgcom saga over two weeks of tree troubles and sill no real answers

Daniel

Daniel Report 3 Jan 2013 00:03

this is ridiculous, i have paid good money to use this site and it doesn't do what its supposed to do, very frustrating and disheartening

Come on GR ....get things fixed.

Just let me export my tree as a Gedcom and I'll not bother you any more.

Mind you, I'll not be renewing either, as the farce of the last 10 days or so gives me no confidence in you.

I have been using GR for as long as I have been aware of it, and FR before that. But in future I will subscribe to one of the other firms for information, and using the free sites where possible.

I used to recommend GR to friends, colleagues and clients, but no longer.

In future I'll be keeping my tree in a "Stand alone" program on my netbook.

they must be doing something because the whole tree is down now, well i hope they are doing something

Alisdair

Double ditto

It is a bit pathetic isn't it?

I had loads of free time to continue research over the last 10 days, but was reluctant to add more to my tree ( when it started working again !) in case the export problem meant I would lose the data.

So, I'm off to the County Records Office ( where there isn't wifi ) with an out of date Gedcom loaded onto my netbook and good old pen(cil) and paper to record everything to add to GU when things get back working.

Why has this not been fixed??? :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

At the bottom of the Home Page there is a "Meet The Team" link and it lists 8 key people. There is an announcement board and and you would think that at least one of them would have the decency to stand up and be counted and tell us why 5 days on we still cannot Export/Import a GEDCOM File.

We are intelligent people, we just want to know what the problem is and when we can expect it to be fixed, not a lot to ask is it?

The last person on the list is the Marketing and PR Executive. PR being "Public Relations" it will be interesting to see what PR Spin they will put on this if the press get wind of the total fiasco of tree problems over the past 10 days.

Thank you for taking the time to report this problem.

I have passed the details of this specific issue to our technical team to look at and investigate.

Your patience while we work to resolve this is much appreciated.

No real help, but at least they have replied.

Hi - I am on twitter & have tweeted the CEO. Good suggestion :-)

I refuse to rejoin Facebook to find out information which they should be sharing on their own site! That just adds to my irritation.

Will let you know if I hear anything further....

Alisdair

Alisdair Report 29 Dec 2012 12:48

Very unsatisfactory ... I haven't even had a reply to my latest EMail, and I begrudge using FB to get a response , and I don't do twitter, either.

It's because it's a weekend / Bank Holiday that we're trying to add to family research in our free time.

Once I can export my tree into another program I probably won't return. This was my favourite of the advertised sites, but the performance over the last week has dissuaded me from subscribing and I'll use my Christmas money elsewhere.
