and although I attend church, and our Rector is Welsh speaking, Welsh is never used in our services

none of these welsh words are working their way into my psyche.....I learnt Latin at school and that made a kind of sense..but welsh is just a series of lwlllwsgogogowwws to me lol

Those posters that use commonplace greetings or sign offs on the Wales thread would always explain nicely the translation. They mostly comprise of a couple of words which translate to:
Hello
Good morning/afternoon
All
Luck
Good night
How are you
etc.,
not controversial and easily picked up as they are said by the same posters.

Just my opinion of course.

the opening post from "Do you live in Wales"

Sue's started a thread for Aussies only, I have gone through it and what a laugh I have had, it also brings people together, great.
SO lets have a Welsh thread, you have not got to be born and bread in Wales to take part. I know Ann of Green Gables his sniffing Welsh air just like myself so come on join thee thread and have a laugh, it's FREE.
Regards.
Shaun on the Mountain

by the way "Ann of Green Gables" is me, I changed my board name t AnnCardiff

So what exactly is reportable about that posting - and do remember that Shaun politely asked you to cease posting on the thread after you caused the first dissent ever on there, and you told Sparking Sandie that you thought the thread was "banale"

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Jan 2013 23:45

and why exactly would I wish to report Shaun - a gentleman in every sense of the word

and did I think it was an insult to me? I have no idea, if you had to cloak your comment in the Welsh language I can only speculate - I could have responded in Italian, but I would not dream of doing such a thing, it would rude

jax Report 17 Jan 2013 23:44

Being an English person, not only would I not understand the spoken word....but would not have a clue how to pronounce any of those words

AnnC You go to church - in Wales. Have you really not heard the word nefoedd - heaven.

Ein Tad, yr hwn wyt yn y nefoedd
Sancteiddier dy enw

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name

I have never in my life tried to bamboozle a non Welsh speaker. If you thought it was an insult to you (which it clearly was not) you could have asked me.

And do you not think that one of the many that understand some Welsh on this thread would not have jumped down my throat if I had been discourteous to you? you have vastly more friends than I have.

Edit. Is there a good reason why you have not reported the OP of the "Do You Live in Wales?" thread :-S Masses of untranslated Welsh right through that thread.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Jan 2013 23:32

you have done exactly what people complain about regarding Welsh speakers - you posted in Welsh knowing full well that it would not be understood by the vast majority of people on this site - just what non Welsh speakers dislike so much about Welsh speakers when they revert to Welsh if a non Welsh speaker arrives on the scene - sneaky and underhand - to me you are just as bad as your pillock of an Archdruid friend

I can only presume it was a response to me that you posted in Welsh knowing full well that I would not understand it and that is why English only is the rule for this site - unless of course you put a translation alongside - which you did not

Latin wasn't my strongest subject in languages , but I get your drift Sue.

Guess I shouldn't say S'mae any more ;-)

Edit. a post in Welsh ,whilst not be breaking T & C rules is not understandable by
most peeps on here !

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 17 Jan 2013 23:25

LOL You are totally wrong, AnnC. Just cast your eyes about five posts back.

And if you want other examples of "insufferable" people to report because they don't use English all the time. I will give them to you.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 17 Jan 2013 23:24

Have to agree that all posts which include non standard English should have a translation.

If not that will exclude too many posters :-(

repone in vestri rectum - does that need translating?..lolol

FGS!!!!!! the posting I reported was all in Welsh - I, and others on this site do not speak Welsh, I have no idea what you said, neither do I care - you really are quite insufferable and you are also giving the Welsh a bad name if indeed you are Welsh - you have definitely overstepped the mark now and I have not been intolerant and have made a justified report of your posting - answer that if you can - in English

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 17 Jan 2013 23:11

It said "heaven, I'm in heaven" AnnC FGS

What intolerance!! At least it gives the Welsh language blogs something to chuckle about :-) ;-)

Edit. Might be better for us all to remove our Welsh phrases before we all get reported.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Jan 2013 22:53

and before you ask - I reported that - English only to be used on these boards

John will not answer any questions put to him because he can't answer any question honestly without including some BS. I know this because I have asked him things on this thread myself. He likes to talk to others like they are idiots but does not like it if you do the same to him.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 17 Jan 2013 22:30

Deserves a translation, MrD. Something about bats flying into walls. :-S :-S

Os dach chi'n iawn am yr henaith, mi fydd yn rhaid imi aros sgrifennu yn Saesneg.

If you are right about the old British language of Welsh, MrD, I must stop posting in English. Ie wir, aivlyS ;-)
