Kay. You are frightening me :-0 :-0 :-0 Not venturing forth tonight. Every car with one headlight will cause me to dive into snowdrifts at side of road :-) :-)

George. Rhod Gilbert makes me laugh. In a show at The Apollo, he asks the audience if they have seen his ads promoting Wales.

One shouts out "yes". And have you been to Wales? "yes". And what did you think? "it's a dump"

It's not, replies Rhod. "It's lovely. We've done it all up. Have you seen Cardiff Bay?" You can sit outside and sip your soup and look at the sea"

Where did you go in Wales? "Swansea" replied ther member of the audience.

Oh, see what you mean. Yes, that's still a dump" :-D

Johns a tour guide George so hes the man to know every mound and dip in Wales. You should go with him next time.

Been to wales twice with old fogs (he has relations there) not far from Swansea, and to be honest didn't like either time I went.
Fist time ended up having a set to with some ignorant people who were talking in English when we went into the pub, but started in Welsh when we spoke.
Second time had an argument with a couple of morons who seemed to think we were there to buy property, as if.
So don't think I would ever bother going back, but I will say parts of it where we went was nice, and parts were a complete dump, like wherever you go.

Mersey. Just google earth Cwm Parc and then move towards Abergwynfi. Difficult to believe you are in a largely industrial area of Wales. It is beautiful.

AnnC Forgot to mention. M4 J32 - friendly cuppa awaits visitors from Genes (with one major exception :-))

George. M4 is not best suggestion for sightseeing. Pontypandy is fictional, as AnnC said. Usually people think it is a combination of the two Valleys towns of Pontypridd and Tonypandy. If you leave M4 at J34 you are in Tonypandy within 10 minutes. And there is a beautiful detour via Treorchy in Rhondda to near Port Talbot where you can rejoin the M4. You will see half of the famous Rhondda valley (Llwynypia, Gelli, Ton Pentre, Pentre with its "Cathedral" and Treorchy, which you will love or loathe, then Cwm Parc and the high pass above known as the Bwlch and you descend via the lovely wooded and remote Gwynfi Valley. Absolutely beautiful detour.

And Port Talbot (M4 J41) is very industrial at first glance, but if you go a mile off the M4 you will be very surprised. North up the Afan Valley to Cwmafan. South to one or two really nice and fairly quiet beaches. Much cheaper and more fun that stopping at M4 Services :-D

George, Port Talbot does look dreadful and the air quality is bad. They have monitors online where you can check the pollution levels. However it's a hub for jobs and is crucially accessible by Motorway and Sea. Oddly it has loads of golf courses.

Lampeter I also agree with you. Do you mean Newport, Gwent Or Newport, Pembs?

Newport Pembs has lovely beaches but catches the wind sometimes.

I could however list many more lovely places in Wales to visit :-)

Same as any country isn't it, grim industrial areas, towns without investment etc.,

Pontypandy, is that near that toilet of a town called port Talbot, went past there when we went to Lampeter, what a dump, mind Lampeter and Newport isn't much better.
