those lampshades are lethal so many bruises on my legs whenold dog had to have one and she broke it as well shes was almost blind and deaf when she had to wear if and had obviously worked out the house normally but add that extra width and she was banging into everything gave up with it in the end and as wound was her food covered her in Zoes socks lol

Hope she goes on ok. non of my speyed bitches have ever bothered with the stitches. In fact as soon as they got over the anaesthetic they denide having them and went on as though nothing had happened.

I've just bought 3 baby grows in Asda....18-24 mths.with a bit of messing about i think they'll fit her lol..poor thing is going to look proper daft though lol

Our Collie steals food too given half the chance Ginnie lol...little s*ds aren't they...but it's all part of the fun !!! Thank you I'm sure she will be ok...just want to make it as easy and comfortable for her as I can. x

We also used the adapted t-shirt idea when our lurcher was spayed many years ago, she was a bit naughty and tried to bite her stitches so we had to try to keep them loosely covered until they had at least started to heal. Comfy collars weren't available then. :-(

Our girl could be very naughty at times but she was a fantastic family pet for 12 yrs, she was a rescue dog and we never managed to stop her stealing food but as she was 4ish when we got her we decided it was due to her life before us. Still miss her now.

Muffy my Mums dog has got the comfy collars she used them last year they were fantastic for him.....He is only a Jack Russel and I know Harper is a bigger doggydoodles but I think that might be the best option......Even if its only used for a few hours or a few days its much more comfortable than the horrid plastic collars.......

Just had a peek at the comfy collars Chippie...they do look miles better than the lampshades !!! That's a definite possibility !!!

When i had my old lady spayed she didn't need the collar as she was very tired and ill after the op and was just too tired to be doing with even looking at the stitches.

Harper however is the kind who would just throw herself against a wall to dislodge it...she's not the sort of girl who will tolerate discomfort like that lol. I may try and fashion one of the girl's old t shirts into a post op and have the comfy collar on hand if needed as well...thanks all.

Depending on how big she is, a baby vest might work.
Othewise, just gowith the collar thing, and hhave 1:1 time with it off each day.

Comfy collars are quite good you can get them from amazon.

Our little lurcher Alice had 6 cysts removed in July and had stitches in various places, including back of her neck so she couldn't wear the lampshade anyway! She was really good and didn't worry her stitches at all. The only problem is she loves to roll on the grass, so when she was allowed out I dressed her in a small T shirt which covered most of her, just to keep her clean. Caused a few laughs but she didn't mind!!

Dogs are quite adaptable to anything unless it's a Jack Russell and that's another story. I had one that was run over and lost a back leg - never slowed him down or taught him any common sense....Loved him to bits!!

Don't spend a fortune on special shirts, any old T shirt will do. Good luck!!

When I had my female cat spayed, years ago, a collar was never used, When I had Betty cat spayed, 6 years ago, I took the collar. off, as it was causing her so much distress.
Also there wasn't much point in her wearing a collar as, with other cats in the house, if they'd been determined, the other cats would have attacked the stitches for her - but didn't!!

Now everyone knows that I am utterly against dressing dogs up ..however...Harper is going to be spayed in January and I just KNOW she won't handle the big collar they're given to protect the stitches ..sooooo i've seen you can buy a shirt for them to wear while the stitches are healing....anyone ever used one for their dog? Do they work? Or does anyone have any ideas on how I can escape using the dreaded collar when the time comes?
