Good for you - when I stopped I took one day at a time and paid myself what I would have smoked!

I found it encouraging - and I still demand my pocket money from OH - mind you I think it should be trebled since I found out the price the other week!

Good Dizzi ,join the clubI gave up beginning of Nov last year.
Had been caring for a very sick OH for 5 years and when I got stressed they kept me sane.He died in Aug last year and decided to go to son in Oz to look after grandchildren as their mum had died.
I went to Oz and knew I couldn't smoke for 24 hrs so thought it a good time to give up.
Haven't smoked since ,,,hard at times, but not given in..

Good luck and Happy New Year

You're very honest Dizzi..
I must admit I went to a class at the local hospital. There were 6 of us and only 2 left at the end of 6 weeks. They took monoxide levels which could tell if you cheated.
I had patches for a while and a little plastic cig,but soon did away with them.
Will not succumb again!

Well done Gwen, and Brenda and others who have beaten the vice.

When I see the cost of cigarettes I can't understand how some people can afford to smoke, they are very expensive.

Keep up the good work everyone

Well done Dizzi that is great news. Don't give in now. Put the money aside that you would have spent and treat yourself every so often, or savefor something you really want. It will really help you.

Well done to all the others that have given up too, my OH gave up in 1994 after being quite a heavy smoker since he was 15 (R Navy - cheap cigs). He now even hates the smell. :-)

JustJohn Report 1 Jan 2013 10:37

I was brought up in a house where my parents bought Christmas presents with those brown Kensitas coupons. Millions of them!!! So our house was a constant fug. And the top of buses to work was exactly the same. And so were the fashionable frothy coffee bars of the time. And my 16th birthday present from my parents was 200 Three Castles :-D

Me and OH decided jointly to stop in 1984 because she wanted a little car to take children out for treats and we could not afford a second car. But we could after stopping smoking - nice little white Mini. :-D

I hated the smell of smoke almost immediately and would have to walk out of a restaurant even if someone was smoking in the far corner to me. But OH remained desperate for a ciggie for over 10 years and it was extremely difficult for her. Her nose still twitches like Samantha in "Bewitched" after 28 years weed-free. So it is a very hard fight for some.

Well done Dizzi, keep going one day at a time.
I gave up in 1982 wasn't the easiest thing to do but probably one of the best.

Dizzi I bought my iPad to go to Oz and this has been paid for with what I would have paid in ciggies,,and I wasn't a heavy smoker around 10-12 a day.
Save for something!
