Go to "account" at top of page
"Export Gedcom"
You will receive an email.
Forward the email to your nephew.
The rest is up to him.

Basically a Gedcom file is one that can be read by a number of family tree programs.

Ask your nephew if he has one ( or can load one to an on-line site like this ). If he can, following the following (relatively easy ) steps.

Export your tree as a Gedcom and when you get the EMail & attachment save the attachment into a folder ( such as Documents) on your computer

Then attach the file to an EMail and send it to him.

He can then import it into which ever program he uses.

None of your information will be lost on this site, as it copies the information , but some of it may not be transfer . ( If you have the information saved as notes on GU these should copy )

But, as you update your tree on GU, the older, exported, file won't update and you'll have to transfer it again.

That was the cause of the frustration felt by many, they ( we) had updated the tree but couldn't export ( ie copy) the information for use when not online ( I have it copied to my netbook which I can use when at the County records office, or at relatives without wifi access )

can anyone please explain to me, what import and export gedcom mean in simple terms. i would love to send my tree to my nephew but i am at a loss as how to do this. would all the extra bits, like served in w.w.1 be lost ...?
