Hi all i hope you can help. It has taken me a long time to find a birth relative of mine i am so nervous she won't get it so i have sent "a trial" email requesting to see my friends tree. However the email my friend received is scrambled and she is unable to open my message.

Is anyone else having problems?

Thanks in advance

AnnCardiff Report 5 Jan 2013 13:52

Hello Rachel - welcome

When you say "email", do you mean a message via Genes Reunited?

Rachel Report 5 Jan 2013 14:35

Yes Anne thank you for your reply!

Sorry i wasn't very clear i'm a bag of nerves today!

I am going to send a request to "view her tree"

Think thats the only way to contact someone?

AnnCardiff Report 5 Jan 2013 15:02

well give that a go first - calm down :-) now don't expect a response immediately, in fact prepare yourself not to get one at all then if you do it'll be the cherry on the cake :-D sometimes it's a sad fact that people don't respond for various reasons - having left the site for instance

Anyway, that's the best you can do at the moment - hang in there and if you need to come back to me, click on my name to send me a message via Genes Reunited - Click on my Boardname - AnnCardiff at the head of this posting

good luck - but I think some people - meaning like me! are a bit cautious with an unexplained request to view my tree. If you can add some vaguely convincing reason for your interest it might help. I apprecviate you don't want to jump in too abruptly.

LadyScozz Report 5 Jan 2013 17:39

I wouldn't send a "Request to View Your Tree" without also giving some information.

Give as much as possible, names, places & years of birth, parents, spouses etc.

I've had so many of these demands (I've stopped calling them requests) with no information (and no access to their tree either) that I've stopped responding to them. If the "requesters" are really interested they'll send another message.

Thank you all for your replies and good advise i have spent 2 weeks writing a letter to send witht the request to here goes.. won't get my hopes up but have to try.

You're all so kiind its much appreciated x :-)

You can roughly work out how long someone has been a member (or joined) by looking at their membership number

There are over 13 million now, yours is 13125497

my one from 2007 is 7471310

So you stand more of a chance of getting a reply if they joined in the last couple of years....but as you can see there are many old members still using the site

good luck
