My attitude exactly Emma.
After all, he uses the house/eats the food/ dirties his clothes just as much as I do.
I worked all my life too & if he thinks he´s going to spend his retirement in the local bar while I do all the work, he´s got a nasty shock coming.
We´re getting there gradually. As you say, training is the answer (to say nothing of sheer determination).

I've been married 53 years this year, we are both
Scottish and his ideas were like his fathers till he
married me, a womans place etc, well I worked
as well as him so we shared all the chores etc and
it was never a problem.

We´ve only been married for 4 years & he´s Spanish, so has a very different take on a woman´s role, but he´s learning fast.
He may be Spanish, but I´m not. :-P

A woman after me own heart, am also retired and times
my own, OH does most of the housework as RA plays
up in the winter with me, so he does it in his own time also.

Don´t worry Emma, I have it all sussed now. Best time for repeats is between 10.30 am & 1pm Spanish time. If there´s something I want to watch, the housework has to wait.
I am retired after all. If OH wants it done sooner, he´s welcome to do it himself. After all I don´t interrupt his football.

problem is, I live in Spain so all the English TV channels run an hour later (usually start just as I´m heading for bed)

you were dreading getting Bring up the Bodies this year.
For me I couldn't put the books down, you may get into
them some day.
Not tudor times but programme that might interest you
next Saturday 12th on Ch4, 9pm 'World Without End.'
A new series, England 1327 after Edward ll is killed on
the orders of his wife Isabella, their son is installed on the
throne, while Sir Thomas Langley who was involved in the
plot, finds sanctuary in the village of Kingsbridge.

I´m sure I am a lone voice here.
Haven´t read Bring up the Bodies, but have tried twice to get through Wolfe Hall & failed miserably about 2/3 way through.
I feel really guilty because my cousin sent it to me for Christmas last year. We are both "Tudor history nuts" & she had raved about it. haven´t told her I haven´t managed to finish it, but I was dreading that she would send Bring up the Bodies this year.
Luckily it was a couple of Phillipa Gregorys instead.

When reading the books I had in my mind my idea
of how he looked....sighs.. fantasy of course :-D

According to my local paper.......

The rights to Hilary Mantel's Booker prize winning historical
novels, have been snapped up by the BBC, which plans to
make a six part drama with them as its base. Details are patchy
at this stage, with the part of Thomas Cromwell- the figure at the
heart of the books- yet to be cast. 2013 BBC 2.

I enjoyed both these novels and will be looking forward to seeing
this drama. To be confirmed of course.
