Lilybids- you'll have to send your daughter out shopping today so that you won't have to slip and slide on the pavements tomorrow ;-)
You're only supposed to be getting 2-5 cm, so it shouldn't grind everything to a halt :-D

Bit early in the day to be staggering Ann ;-) ;-)

Yep it is nasty on the pavements here too ,have to walk on the road and then jump back in the piled snow when a a vehicle comes along ( Dive in the snow if it's a large lorry)

Hope it isn't too icy underfoot John, that is the main problem after snow, the ice underneath.

Our lovely neighbours have just knocked and asked if we need anything. we don't actually but they will get me a paper.

Gwyn in Kent Report 19 Jan 2013 10:59

Snow arrived yesterday evening and continued to lay a fair cover overnight, but that's all it is, - a covering. Transport along the coastal route will be fine, but it can be quite different once you head up the hills towards inland.

More snow due to be dumped on us in this south east corner from the continent

:-(

The 12" we woke to yesterday has melted away this morning to about 5" in the Valleys. Reduced from red alert to amber alert.

But have not heard a bus go past or a car in over 2 hours. Would usually have been 4 buses one way and 4 the other and probably at least 60 cars going up and down road. Just about to venture out (cos we must!!) on foot. Hopefully trains are running normally today in valley bottom down to Cardiff.

Light snowfall in West Norfolk this afternoon, but expecting more on and off over the weekend, paricularly Sunday, when it's coming over from France. Not quite as cold, but still below zero, so very icy underfoot.
300 schools across Norfolk are closed - fair enough, but they've also closed our local recycling centre due to the weather. They were busy clearing it, so we thought we'd go back later, but still closed. "Too dangerous!" we were told, even though they'd cleared the snow and ice. Blooming elfn'safety! :-P

still snowing here and sky looking full of it

JustJohn Report 18 Jan 2013 14:28

Just been shopping in local village centre in Rhondda. Thawing quite fast, but still a good 8". Only vehicles moving are lorries and 4X4. Saw one car try to get up a small gradient and he had to reverse back down and park up.

Out of 50 shops, only 5 were open - small supermarket, newsagents, other newsagents, gifts shop (he lives over) and fruit & veg shop. Supermarket run out of milk and awaiting delivery. And fruit & veg shop had hardly any stock as no delivery today.

Everybody seems happy. Few gone into work, none gone into school. Snow still a novelty to the younger ones (we did have a lot 2 years ago but they forget) :-)

It's been snowing very lightly here, just outside Conwy, since about 7 :30 this morning. Hasn't stuck though. My grand daughters school sent texts to parents/carers at lunch time, requesting that the children be collected as soon as possible. Many of the teachers live further up the valleys where the conditions are much worse.
