Alyson told me the main roads are OK now around the Heads of the Valleys it's just the side and minor roads that are skating rinks.

Thanks Sue, we've all been out walking today..not as far as Bristol ;-)
We can see the the A465 from here.
I'm just a concerned mum,and hate the thought of him driving in icy conditions. so early in the morning.
He's been out today and managed to get back up the 'hill'...
I'll probably be wide awake at 6.00am !

This is link to the local travel news site for south east wales that includes the Heads of the Valleys road. The traffic jam cameras give you a view of the actual road conditions and road incidents list any problems. Seems fine on main roads at the moment. Next problem on Tuesday morning!

Here in West Norfolk, we had about a further 3 inches overnight, but still managed to get the hospital today, as the roads are OK.

just seen the BBC Wales forecast - looks as if we're in for more snow tomorrow

bay tree in the garden got very out of hand - far too tall now for me to lop it off - however, the heavy snow has bowed the branches right down so I went down with the tree loppers and lopped off some of the top branches - fine - except for the fact that all the snow came off with the branches and I ended up looking like a snow man!! :-S :-S :-S

Another 3" early thismorning in Valleys, on top of remnants of the 12" we had last Friday morning. Again nothing moving. All schools appear to be closed. Looks like milder and rainier weather by weekend. None of those huge icicles hanging from rooves like we saw in Dec 2010 and main roads passable (apart from main mountain roads)

Son off on train tomorrow after lunch to attend a pop concert (Sylosis) in center of Bristol. Any updates from that side of Bridge very welcome.

Just thought you'd like to know :-P

Seriously, hope everyone keeps safe and warm.

John ~~ bragging again ;-) ;-) Men do about sizes ! ;-)

No seriously ...we normally get heavier snow than down in the valleys nearer to Cardiff / Newport and we only had about 6 to 8 inches before. We've had another 6 inches overnight.:(

When I worked in Blackwood , .....South Wales .....( for those who don't know the area ) my bosses didn't believe me when I phoned , to say we had 2ft of snow and I was stuck, and that there was no movement on the main roads either, cos they only had rain in Blackwood ! A mere 15 miles south of us !

It was snowing heavily at 4am ,son says it was still coming down at 7.30am.
He normally leaves for work at 6.30am.

Gritters have been out now and traffic is moving on main road.
Where is the sun ?????

Edit :-P :-P at Sue basking at the coast ;-)

AnnCardiff Report 22 Jan 2013 11:45

well it started here around 3:00 am for about and hour - then stopped

I'm due at the hairdressers in Taffs Well this afternon - son lives there and he phoned at 10:00 am and send cancel it, you wonlt get here - well I'm still hopeful

been snowing here now for just over an hour - still have about four/five inches on top of my car, the road and pavements are still white - it ain't looking that good, but I'm intrepid and I'm sure I'll be able to get my hair cut :-D :-D :-D

K ~~~~ Hello :-)

I usually check out the CCTV web cams ,thanks for the link.

Have you seen the one on the 'Highest Point' on the A465 S E Wales ?

Smashing view of snowy moorland :-D no road view ! ,wind probably distorted it or perhaps some hooligan playing silly beggars. :-(

This has largely become a South Wales thread. Am absolutely sure that was not the intention. Nobody expected us to have a red warning on 11Jan :-(

Very interesting when you look at OP 11 days ago that we all thought we were the lucky ones here in S Wales. How things have changed since 4am 19 Jan :-( :-(

Think you might have to continue to look like Rapunzel, AnnC ;-)

Thanks Sandie - They are iced up at the moment but will check back. I am over the border in Herefordshire. Tomorrow morning might be interesting.

Also been looking at the Fife camera's as sister in law is building a house there at the moment and living in a caravan!!! Rather her than me in this weather.
