Went to the docs this morning for the results of my blood test, fully expecting to be put on tablets for cholesterol.

Doctor said he was amazed at the result and I proved him wrong when he thought I wouldnt get it down by diet alone. He said he would have put money on it that I was on Statins already with that result. My cholesterol went down from 7.9 on 8th December to 5.4 when I had a second blood test last week.

It has so been worth all the hassle of refusing everything in the sweet and sickly line since the beginning of December. Cant believe I have done it, lost about 10 pounds too. I have to carry on what I am doing but it has really spurred me on. Would love to lose another stone or so for 20th March, when we go away, and get it down even further. I am so PLEASED :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

should be remembered thought that high cholesterol is not always down to diet - mine is familial - was in double figures when diagnosed, kept thinking I was having heart attacks - when diagnosed I asked not to have statins and I would stop eating all the wrong things - went back a month later and it had gone up to 11.7!!! then told it was familial - one of my parents must have had it, so I'm on statins and my reading is now round about 4 and I feel great

AnnC. Same here. Though I think 11.7 is quite a bit higher than me. Think it was about 7 point something and has been 4 point something since I started statins 11 years ago.

Most important, I think, is that we check it at least annually from quite an early age. Probably people in 40's should all be checking it :-)

That's great Ann, doc mentioned that sometimes it could be that. Just got lucky I think as my dad was on statins but has recently lost so much weight through other problems that he had to come off them. I do feel a lot better though too.

that's good Marilyn and apparently statins are a kind of elixir of life - good for all sorts of things - many benefits

Well done Marilyn, mine was 8.6 when I had a heart attack, am on statins which keeps it around 5 but would like to be lower.

I thought a little bit of chocolate (particularly dark) was quite good for you and not particularly fattening. I know I have a couple of small squares of Tesco finest every day and it keeps me sweet :-D :-D

Keep going k, if I can do this anyone can, it's one of the hardest things I ever had to do but I'm winning. I think I was on the way to heart attack carol, needed doc to sort me out.

I don't like dark choc john only the sweet sickly stuff, Lindt is my favourite and particularly white choc.

:-D :-D :-D

A small amount of chocolate is fine but I don't have an off switch and it easier just to say no sadly.

Was given a huge box of Thornton's at Xmas and worked my way through the whole box :-S

Favourite is praline Lindt :-D
