Yes it is still working !!!!!! :-)

The heating has been on 24/7 as it is so cold here .and I have had so many hot baths that I will be turning into a prune .

Should have known not to buy a house at the top of a hill near the coast in N/E scotland where the north sea wind blows all year round !!!!!

Oh Kathy, hope you are all warm and snug now and the boiler will stay on when it should. About time and I still think you should have a case of wine as compensation lol

I am laughing about Shirley's engineers, not surprising they didn't know how to fix the boiler if they came from BT lol

Take care, and will talk to you again soon

Love

Finger/eyes/every else than can be crossed is done.

Been there before too with our warm air central heating that kept cutting out. Got peed off with BG engineers calling and you could see by their facial expressions that they had no idea how the boiler worked let alone diagnose the fault.

so 5hrs and still working sounds a good un.

Still keeping my legs crossed for you !! :-D :-D :-D :-D

Almost scared to write this but number 9 ( who was also no 8 ) came this afternoon and replaced a part and my heating has been on now for 5hrs without cutting off .

The only one unhappy is the cat since he no longer has the gas fire to curl up infront of .

So fingers crossed that this is the end of the saga .

Away to have a long hot soak .

Kathy :-)

Good idea, Kathy, go out and stay somewhere warm lol I do hope No 8 gets things sorted for you but still think you need compensating, a case of wine would help eh?

Thank you all for making me laugh .

Number 8 today was from Sunderland he and others had been called up to scotland as they can't cope with breakdowns here with their own work force .

Did manage to get the heating going a few times today but took hundreds of attempts and only lasted 20 mins max .

Tomorrow I have to go out so son can freeze his what nots off waiting for the promised right part .( Sunderland man assured me he had got to the bottom of the problem ) Just hope he is right ??????

Pile on more clothes Kathy and then put your dressinggown on over them all, as you have been doing (I spoke to Kathy yesterday) Then please send me a picture as I have never seen you fat lol

Bless you, such a shame no. 6 didn't offer to come back and keep you warm while you were having so many problems.

It's disgraceful that you have had such bad service, hope you get compensation. Nearly time to contact the newspapers I think, being a pensioner will get their interest, but no one should be left in the lurch like this. Wish I was nearer as I have several electric heaters that would help you stay warm, just rather a long way to send them.

Take care, and will talk to you again soon

love and warm hugs

Defiantly a letter to head office, request compensation, 7 men failed to notice my boiler was dangerous, you have serviced it for years etc etc.

Just emigrate to England cheeper than going abroad and we almost speak the same language! It's a bit fresh but sunny and no snow in Sussex at the moment!

Best of luck tomorrow,
Mayfield

Seems like your Boiler is named "Enigma"and your Gas Company should employ a decent Engineer. When next they arrive to repair it Dress as" Miss Whiplash" with the emphasis on Whip, a B great big one. :-D :-D

Number 8 has been and gone .

He def knows what is wrong with it it is overheating !!!!!!! He has ordered yet another part which will come tomorrow.

I can't turn it on at all now .At least the past few days it would go on even if it was only for 10 minutes at least it took the chill off for a while .

He slapped a safety notice on my boiler because my flue pipe needs a bracket on it .Funny the previous 7 men never mentioned that .

Ready to give up and emigrate

Your Heating Control /temperature guage,( Usually fitted on a wall from 10 to 30 degrees) get the hoover out and do the top opening, sometimes it gets clogged with dust and sticks, Try it, it might just work. Sometimes its just the simplist of things that need looking at.

Tell them the boiler (if they fitted it) is 'not fit for purpose'.
Or, if they didn't fit it, their contract is 'not fit for purpose', and as an elder of society you would expect a better service, then quote the Office of Fair Trading at them - if you Google, you're bound to find an act that covers bad heating engineers.

Thanks all for your comments

Today has been the worse as the boiler will only come on when the raidiators are cold . This doesn't happen at first or 10 try so it is also getting very cold in doors .

We now have a lot or snow and weather forcast not good .

I am not with BG I am scottish so am with S E .They tell me that there is no limit on call outs but hay ho this must be costing them a fortune .

I will not tie up number 8 but if 6 came back I may tempted ???

Hi Kathy ,
we had the same as you about 7 yrs ago , our combi kept breaking down
we had in total 11 men from BG we had no hot water or heating , they would fix it make sure the water was hot before they left but as soon as i turned on the tap the water was cold , in the end i started really complaining they sent out an older man and he done the job no trouble, but in the mean time we very nearly had a new boiler .

Hi Kathy,
When I worked for BG, I was the guy that's supposed on Jury service (I wonder) If anyone got past the stonewall that was our contact bureaux they would dust me off and send me out with the instruction “get this customer off our backs don’t care what it takes just do it!”
In those days it was the Gas Consultative Council or Head office at Croydon that struck terror into line managers. The GCC has long gone but a complaint to head office with the obligatory phrase “Copy to BBC Watchdog” and referring to Facebook should focus their minds it’s the ones that scream loudest that get done first I’m afraid!

Quick on-line search throws this up
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/help-and-advice/contactus-personal-details/complaints.html
it might be of some help.

Good luck,
Mayfield.

Kathy near the,

You have my sympathy, in the winter of 2010 where I lived before I moved here, I had very similar problems.

They fitted part after part but the problem still persisted, engineer number 6 came and he fitted another new part, some sort of diaphragm pressure switch which was connected to about three of four small plastic tubes.

Before he put the boiler back together he blew through each of the tubes to make sure there were no blockages and discovered one had a small split in it, he replaced that tube and the problem was finally resolved.

Got nearly a new boiler with all the parts they fitted, which were probably not needed, thank goodness my contract covered parts and labour, all because none of the previous engineers checked the plastic tubes to that pressure switch.

Trouble these days when there is a problem with complicated equipment like gas boilers they look for a complicated solution first :-(

I do hope that they get it fixed for you soon.

Best Wishes

James

If your with the Gas Board on a contract sorry but I think you're wasting your time, we had a contract years ago with them they were useless, kept changing the same part and it kept stopping, eventually got a registered gas fitter and plumber in he told us that the gas board use refurbished parts not new when they come to change parts, that's why they don't last, (they also take your old parts away with them), best thing we ever did was find a decent independant gas fitter/plumber, we still use him, worth his weight in gold.
I hope everything gets sorted for you quickly, the next fitter that comes, lock him in the kitchen and tell him he's not going til he's fixed your boiler.

Well my 7th man came today not a lead engineer as I was promised but a bog standard plumber .

He fitted yet another part got it going then left .Less than an hour later it had cut out again !!!!!

Called the company to be told that their lead man is on jury service and they don't know when he will be back .They are sending yet another engineer tomorrow .

Question how many men does it take to fix a boiler ?????
