My grandad was brought up in the same house all his life (as was his dad) - and the road name/numbering changed!!
Here's a pic of some of Great Holme Street

http://cdm15407.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15407coll5/id/1041/rec/16

They were possibly pulling them down and re-naming the rest of the street as early as 1911

Thanks everyone for your comments,

My great grandmother Elsie Gertrude east lived in 21 great holme street and my Great grandad Albert Edwin Boyes (prior to marrying in 1914) lived in 36 great holme street

i did see a tiny image record on ancestry.co.uk (couldnt see the whole thing) that had an Albert Edwin Boyes living in either 23 or 25 Great home Street (record not clear.

i have been trying to find out the father of Albert Edwin Boyes, i have the marriage certificate of Albert and elsie and that says his father was edward, however all other research i have suggests his father was Edwin Boyes.

so i was hoping to find out some more info from house searches.

anyway thanks again for your help

Edwin and Edward were fairly interchangeable. When and where was Albert born?

There are no Boyes or East families in Great Holme Street in 1911, so the family Choccy found looks good

Thanks again People,

Potty, i am not 100% sure of Albert Edwin Boyes birthplace, he was born abt 1886.
On GR there is only one result for an Albert Edwin Boyes born in 1886 and the birthplace is Nottingham, in the 1911 census there is an Edwin Boyes born in northampton in abt 1866 edwin was in Nottingham in the 1881 census so i guess the edwin boyes in the 1911 leicester census is the father of the Albert edwin boyes born in nottingham?

on albert and elsie marriage certificate his father is down as edward, albert is down as being 28 on his marriage cert on the 1st aug 1914, which would make him born abt 1886 (i guess the same one in nottingham).

but as i said on his marriage cert his father is edward, yet in the 1911 census the father is edwin.

but i know sometimes people are not called by their real name?

if the edwin boyes in leicester 1911 census is albert edwin boyes's father then this means my great grandparents where first cousins!

as edwin had a sister (emily boyes 1869 northampton who was the mother of Elise gurtrude east.

anyway, i think i might order a copy of the cemetery records at welford road to see if he may be buried there.

Thanks again

LindainHerriotCountry

in 1911 census there is an elsie east living at 21 great holme street (where my father was born)

she is living with a george and emily stevens.

emily stevens is elsie's mother

emily maiden name boyes married a william steer then married william lawrence east then after he died she married george stevens.

Elsie was born out of wedlock in 1894 and her parents William lawrence east and emily steer (formerly boyes) married in 1906.
