My next door neighbour feeds the pigeons all year round, in her back garden, and even buys special food for them. |

We have around eight wood pigeons that visit the garden and polish off anything I put out for the birds. |

We fitted a bird station in our garden yesteday and awaited our first visitors. The first to arrive was a squirrel, he has been back several times since. Quite a few wood pigeons, and several magpies. The station is made of wrought iron and we were advised that squirrels would not be able to get to the platform or reach the hangings baskets, but he has.... :-( any ideas how can we stop the squirrels please ???? :-S |

Stick some Chilli Pepper in the food, it won,t affect the birds but Squirrels won,t like it. |

@ Chris this is has wrought iron pole its positioned away from anywhere that cats, squirrels et al could get to, but these little bighters have managed have it. To be fair it is so cold and snowed over at the moment I simply can't refuse the sqirrels a feed. ........... |

I have always tried not to encourage birds as Mini hates them as much as she hates cats.....but since moving here (Sept 2011) we seem to have inherited a blackbird. Although not tame it has no problem popping in the door to pinch the dog biscuits. To stop it doing that I have tried to feed it else where away from the door and now the little blighter knocks on the door in the mornings when I am up for his/her morning food :-S |
