Union Buildings, Woolwich?

Hi there

Does anybody know of 111 Union Buildings in Woolwich?

Was it an old workhouse?

I do hope someone can help me, thank you.

Which years are you thnking of? In 1871 Union buildings in/next to Union Street, St Marys, Woolwich appears to be mostly occupied by workers in the Royal Arsenal, but I can't see 111.

In 1876 my great grandad was born there and his parents resided there?????

I can only see numbers up to 37 in 1881 and these are not part of a workhouse. Presumbly your family had left by 1881?

Charles Booth has an online archive which includes some references to Union Buildings which may be worth looking at

Chat on this link suggests that Union St/buildings would have been named after the union of England and Scotland rather than the workhouse

I do not know if it is of any help but in 1950s/60's there was a large area of old tenement housing in Woolwich, I know because my ex grew up there.

I have just read all the above and it looks like it wasn't the Workhouse.....

Think I need to research more.
