Although I'm not enjoying this programme a great deal,
it is one that i feel impelled to watch to see the outcome.

Daft or what??

Emma :-)

His voice reminds me of David Guest another arrogant annoying man.
I enjoyed The Paradise and this has come a bit too soon after in my opinion.
This one wether based on true facts or not is pretty boring and predictable.
I hope his wife has fun with the artist, whats good for the goose and all that.

Have not watched it, taped first episode but could not get into it.

For those who have persevered how true to his life story is this?

Mr S got home early for a change and his wife was not there as
she is sitting for the painter to do her portrait. What caught my
attention was the trailer for this week as I think Mr S and the painter
are fighting and think Mrs S is gonna have a face to face with the
actress. As I wasn't, engrossed in the programme I think that's the
gist of it, if not someone will correct me. :-D

Glad it wasn't just our TV then Barb, I think skating on ice must have overun because of the fall. Annoying, we used to have a recording system that adjusted to changes like that.

BarbinSGlos

BarbinSGlos Report 26 Jan 2013 13:00

I recorded it last time too and cut off before the end

Am I really interested? Just a little bit as I have already given it 3 hours of my life :-D :-D

AnninGlos Report 26 Jan 2013 12:53

Maybe the leading man's expression is based on photographs of the real Mr Selfridge???

Emma, what happened in the last ten minutes of the latest episode, the bit I missed. :-S

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 26 Jan 2013 10:41

I Just do not like it at all, and agree the leading man's toothy smile is annoying me intensely, also some of the other characters seem rather "weak", the plots seems contrived, you can almost see whats coming. We have visitors tomorrow so we may record it, or maybe not bother. Brink back Downton :-|

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 26 Jan 2013 10:33

Well I will have to watch it this week again Ann as
I think its going to kick off about the painter and his
wife also his bit on the side :-D

Emma :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Jan 2013 21:49

Well I watched the first two and almost all the third but it must have run late as it cut out before the end, Just got to where his wife was sitting for the artist.

I don't think it is too bad, ok for something to watch when nothing else on. But not over Keen on the acting.

Like seeing the store though.

Jean

Glad I'm not on my own thinking that Mr Selfridge isn't as good as hoped for. I'm not sorry I won't be here to see the rest of the series.
For a start, the chap's smile is irritating me. I mean, who the heck goes around smiling to themselves like that all the time. It's not even a genuine smile.
The whole thing just doesn't ring true, whether it 's the wooden acting or the false looking scenery, I don't know, but this series isn't grabbing my attention at all. :-( :-(
