Anyone watching this?
I am trying very hard to enjoy this but am I right in thinking a lot of the acting isn't very good. Loved Becky in Corrie but cant warm to her at all in this.

I really enjoyed the last one OMG suddenly cant remember the name. You know, another big store. Will give it one more viewing just in case it gets better imo.
Does anyone else have an opinion about it :-) :-) :-)

I have got the first two parts recorded so am intetested in whether it is going to be worth watching. The adverts didn't appeal to me somehow.

I must admit I think it is really good.

There was a programme called "The Paradise" which was set in the north and was on similar lines which I really enjoyed too.

Thats it Kathleen The Paradise thanks.
It must just be me then. I usually love all costume dramas too but the acting seems so forced. The dresses are fabulous though. :-D

I didn't enjoy The Paradise so stopped watching it.
Mr Selfridge is not doing it for me either at the moment
but will give it one more try.

I am not alone then GG and Kucinta. One more week then as none of the characters seem believable

I had really looked forward to it and at the start it was great but I too feel sorry that the lady from Corrie isnt doing more in it, what she is doing isnt really challenging, I loved her in Corrie, I was hoping to see more of the workings of the store too, so like most of you I will watch some more and then make my mind up....

Love Jean x

Cooper

Cooper Report 16 Jan 2013 17:16

We were watching it at the weekend Barb and said we would give it one more week. It's sooooo wooden, and dull. I loved the Paradise.

Anyway good news, call the Midwife is back on Sunday the 20th and I love the Blandings series :-D

BarbinSGlos Report 16 Jan 2013 17:33

Hi Cooper. Love the Midwife and although I dont enjoy Miranda Hart in her comedy show, she's brill in this isn't she. As are all the cast

Blandings?? missed that or not on my telly :-S

ButtercupFields

ButtercupFields Report 16 Jan 2013 17:33

I was looking forward to it but was very disappointed. The leading man's toothy smile is annoying me intensely, the dialogue is wooden, the acting is so-so... and in general the only shining light is the gorgeous French actor Gregori Fitoussi (sp) who was in The Spiral.. I was also disappointed at The Paradise.

But maybe I am just picky! :-D

Cooper

Cooper Report 16 Jan 2013 17:44

Blandings is on Sundays Barb on BBC1 at 6.30. It's a six part series.

Mark Williams, Jennifer Saunders and Timothy Spall are in it. It's just like the books and as batty and funny as I expected. I don't remember Clarence having a Son in the book but the actor who plays him is really funny as well. You may be able to catch up on the Internet. It's repeated on Monday at 11.05 pm.

:-D BC, not picky, Selfridges makes the cast of Crossroads look like Shakespearian thespians :-D

Glad I'm not on my own thinking that Mr Selfridge isn't as good as hoped for. I'm not sorry to miss the rest of the series.
For a start, the chap's smile is irritating me. I mean, who the heck goes around smiling to themselves like that all the time. It's not even a genuine smile.
The whole thing just doesn't ring true, whether it 's the wooden acting or the false looking scenery, I don't know, but this series isn't grabbing my attention at all. :-( :-(
