Rambling Rose

Rambling Rose Report 16 Jan 2013 20:12

I'll do one and hopefully someone else will add ( otherwise there will just be the one useless bit of trivia lol)

'Sam Gamgee's daughter 'Elanor' from Lord of the Rings was played by his real life daughter. Sam was played by Sean Astin whose stepfather John Astin played Gomez in 'The Addams family' ( on tv).

( I have been wondering if they were related for ages but just remembered to google!).

Muffyxx Report 16 Jan 2013 20:21

Taken from the QI book of trivia.....

In 2008 a man in Ohio was arrested for having sex with a picnic table :-S :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jan 2013 20:21

well they obviously were related for ages - from birth actually :-D :-D :-D

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jan 2013 20:22

the first black policeman in the UK was called Norwell Gums - I remembered it in case it ever came up in a quiz - it never did!! :-(

Dermot Report 16 Jan 2013 20:44

Rainfall records are all just water under the bridge.

JustJohn Report 16 Jan 2013 22:00

The wettest place in England or Wales is Seathwaite in Lake District with 249 inches of rainfall a year. Remember that from O level geography when I was at school in 70's.

But, living in the Rhondda, I demand a recount :-( :-( :-(

Wend Report 16 Jan 2013 22:22

I'm about the same age as you John and I did 'O' level Geography in the mid 60's - did you have to do several re-takes?

JustJohn Report 16 Jan 2013 22:27

I was a few years older than you, Wend. I was 72 when I finally passed Geography "O" level. Never mind, we teach the young ones it is always worth trying to pass these darned exams ;-)

Sharron Report 16 Jan 2013 22:28

There is only one lake in the Lake District. That is Lake Basenthwaite.

Wend Report 16 Jan 2013 22:44

That's fine John - I didn't really expect an honest reply :-D

JustJohn Report 16 Jan 2013 22:48

??? What an unusual bit of trivia, Sharron. Are all the others "Water". Wonder why it is "Lake" Bassenthwaite.

More monopoly money is printed each year that all the real notes printed in the whole world

MrDaff Report 16 Jan 2013 23:26

The term, honeymoon, is derived from the Babylonians who declared mead, a honey-flavored wine, the official wedding drink, stipulating that the bride's parents be required to keep the groom supplied with the drink for the month following the wedding; that month became known as the honeymonth, hence our honeymoon .. passed me bye then :-S ;-) :-D

AnnCardiff Report 16 Jan 2013 23:42

the orgasm scene in "When Harry met Sally" - the fellow customer who said "I'll have some of what she's having" was the mother of the producer of the film!!

MrDaff Report 16 Jan 2013 23:44

Ann, didn't realise that was u !!! :-D :-D :-D ;-)

Sharron Report 16 Jan 2013 23:51

The first radio operator to pick up the news of the death of Josef Stalin was Johnny Cash.

MrDaff Report 17 Jan 2013 00:16

Did he write a song about it ? 'Joy to the World' perhaps ???

LadyScozz Report 17 Jan 2013 06:04

a truly useless piece of trivia........

You can't bite your own elbow

Guinevere Report 17 Jan 2013 06:36

"Stewardesses" is the longest word that is typed using only the left hand

Wend Report 17 Jan 2013 07:18

Apparently, dolphins and humans are the only known animals that have sex for pleasure.

Well, I don't know what that pair of wood pigeons were up to a couple of days ago in my neighbour's cherry tree then. Must've been trying to keep warm.

LadyScozz Report 17 Jan 2013 08:45

The dogs next door haven't been told either
