Merlin, the women stay because their self esteem is so low due to the treatment from their men. They just don't have the will or fight to stand up for themselves and often have nowhere to go.
Very sad.

Sadly Joy it still is in some places :-| what I can never understand is Why some Women tend to stay with the men who beat them up :-(

it was common practice to beat your wife on a friday night
even not to many moons ago
but not in my family


some divorce cases are awful to read :-(

There was one in ours and the case is still cited today for reference. The last time I saw it was in a book called Violence and the family......The husband although well to do was a right so and so......Cuthbert Shaftoe was his name.

I have just read a few and there weren't half some nasty rotters about...interesting reading though.

there has only ever been two divorces in my family

most of us have acsess to the family poison book
