Yesterday I ventured out to give the car a good run & to restock with the special dog food for Molly Dog.
Sainsbury’s had a large amount of very attractive orchids on offer at just £5, but I resisted & did my shopping. At the checkout I was given a piece of paper saying I had saved £5.60 on price match.

So I went & brought myself a lovely stripped orchid... well it was free... or was it?
:-D

Even if it wasn't free Carol, you should have some pretty flowers to brighten your room for about 8 weeks. Does it have some buds on it? A good buy anyway as they are usually aout £9.

It has lots of buds & as all my others are only just starting to bud up, with a bit of luck will have blooms for a while.

I have found that an ideal place for orchids is my kitchen window sill, over the years I have been given several but all suffered from flower/bud drop.

The 2 I was given for my birthday in September & put in the kitchen dropped their last flowers just before Christmas & sent out new flower growth.

um, a common marketing ploy used by supermarkets.
They love to fool us into thinking we have more money in our purse/wallet when in fact all they are saying is that it would have cost more elsewhere.
For example, if you always shop at Sainsbury then you haven't actually saved anything at all. It's like saying "well, this cost you £20 but if you had bought it at Fortnum and Masons it would have cost £80". Makes me so mad that they try to pull the wool over people's eyes.
ok rant over - I love orchids and would have done the same as you. My mum hated them and I always chuckled when my dad's colleague came over for dinner - always brought her an orchid teehee

I was surprised when I had one early November last year I tried it in the lounge, in the centre, not near a rad and away from a window and it flowered until last week, in fact still has a couple of flowers on it. It is a flower you like or dislike isn't it, no inbetween.

Errol - you do save, because they give you the price difference in a voucher to be used later.

So although I only shop at Sainsburys, those items I buy which are dearer at Tesco I get the difference in a voucher which I will use next time I am in the shop.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 23 Jan 2013 18:02

blimey! Do you mean that even though they are cheaper they give you the price difference as well?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Jan 2013 18:27

No Errol - its the other way round! :-D

If Tesco was selling it cheaper than Sains, then you get a voucher for the difference to put towards your next shop at Sains.

If the item was cheaper in Sains, then they 'boast' about how much you saved.

They can only compare branded goods an example being Heinz/Branston Baked Beans or someother 'named' goods.

Hope you enjoy your orchids Carol.

*******
https://www.sainsburys-live-well-for-less.co.uk/brand-match/

Spend £20 or more, with at least one branded product in your basket, and we'll work out any difference in the price compared with Asda and Tesco. If the same branded shop could have been bought for less, we'll give you a coupon for the difference.

What is Sainsbury's Brand Match?

Sainsbury's Brand Match is a guarantee that if you could have paid less for an identical basket of branded products (same size, flavour, colour etc) at Tesco or Asda, we will give you a coupon at the till for the difference, at the end of that transaction.

The value of the coupon we give will be the difference between the Sainsbury's price for your basket and the cheapest price in Tesco or Asda for an identical basket bought on the same day.

You can then use the coupon on your next shop within the next 14 days.

********

We can tell that you don't shop at Sainsbury's! :-D

I think it was the way the original post was written that confused me - suggested that the money that was saved was also given in vouchers

♥†۩ Carol Paine ۩†♥

♥†۩ Carol Paine ۩†♥ Report 23 Jan 2013 21:26

? bit of paper with savings written on it.
No mention of voucher or coupon

That amount of money was still in my purse & I spent it.

A coupon and a voucher are the same thing - A negotiable certificate that can be detached and redeemed

LollyWithSprinklez

LollyWithSprinklez Report 23 Jan 2013 22:11

But Errol is correct ...If the shopping had been done at Tesco's or Asda it would have been £5.60 cheaper thus all they are doing is as they say price matching!

However if like me neither of the other shops is convenient then at least I am not paying more...but neither are they saving me anything ...Just matching prices :-(

DazedConfused Report 25 Jan 2013 19:46

The coupon you get with your shopping informing you of how much you have saved by shopping at Sainsburys is a voucher to be used next time you shop

It took me a few weeks to work out it was a money off voucher for future use!!!!

You do need to look at the coupon carefully to realise - or maybe I was just a little slow on the uptake!!! :-D

LollyWithSprinklez

LollyWithSprinklez Report 25 Jan 2013 20:43

The way I see it is there are two types of slips given at checkout

If you have spent over £20 and there is a difference between (branded goods)

ie - Heinz baked beans 80p at Tesco/Asda or 65p Sainsbury (fictional figures) then the slip will say you have saved 15p shopping at Sainsburys this is not redeemable just an information slip

If it was in reverse then you would get a voucher for 15p on your next shop
this is the price match!!

It doesn't take into account any own brands that could be cheaper or dearer either way so to my mind although appearing to be a saving might not necessarily be overall and is just another sales gimmick to confuse us

I will stand corrected if I'm wrong

I never seem to get back to Sainsburys in time to redeem the darn things!
