Thats fair enough Mr. Daff.just wanted people to read the article. Its probably on line. but the things in them sound a bit Iffy .to vapourise the nicotine laced liquid into a vapor mist that is inhaled, propylene glycol is put into the cartridge and accounts for 90 percent of their content.they also found traces of the carcinogen nitrosamine and ethernol and glyserin, they have been banned in Canada,Australia and some American states, this is part of what is printed.personally after smoking for over 45yrs,I found that eating Liquorice helped me stop, put on a bit of weight but I have not smoked or wanted to for 18yrs.hope others can do so.howerver the people concerned must want to give up ,and mean it.**M**.

Got them .... but the ends keep melting. Bl__dy expensive too, bit of a con I think - no 'universal fittings' twixt battery (the long white bit) and the 'substitute' (the filter bit). Buy one make and you're stuck with it - if it doesn't suit you, pay out another fistful of dollars for a different make etc etc ad infinitum :-S :-D

Edit; Sri, Merlin - don't read the Mail, or many other c**p so called News sheets. Sri !

Hi Rollo,
I wish I had a tape I could send to you so you can play it to your OH. I wish I could introduce her to my Doctor because it worked for me. She answered her own question when she said it was all down to will power. Without will power it will be impossible to stop smoking and I fully understand the craving she would be going through. It is not a very nice feeling.
I got rid of all my ash trays and lighters for starters then began visiting parks, museums, countryside and seaside resorts breathing in as much fresh air as possible. Try visiting places where smoking is not allowed and in time she may give up smoking altogether. Fingers crossed

Dunno, OH is out with the hens I'll show yr piece to her see what she thinks. fwiw she has come to the conclusion that it's all down to will power but also it is mission impossible... do you still have the tape?

GeordiePride Report 28 Jan 2013 17:43

Hi Rollo,
It took a big kick up the backside and a lecture from my Doctor who read the riot act to me after he received the results of my xrays and ECG test plus my high blood pressure and cholestral levels. I had smoked cigarettes and cigars for 55 years. I walked out of his surgery and never smoked again and that was seven years ago and I feel much healthier today. I never used patches or any electronic devices I just stopped buying fags and it was difficult at first but I persevered.
Hope this helps in some way.

It's his pub - not a tied house - and as landlord he can do what he likes. He won't serve drunks for instance. I don't care 'cos I don't smoke and my OH (who does) dislikes them. Same landlord has no hutch etc for smokers so guess he is not much interested in the ash end of the tray.

Biz is good, depending on the weather so why should he care?

Rollo, have you asked why your local will not allow plastic ciggies :-S Strange, because our local actually sells them.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 28 Jan 2013 15:04

My best friend and business partner was a heavy smoker - I still have his nicotine stained AppleMac. Usual smoking problems inc bad back, herniated disks. So he got the big C. Big op. Yippee it worked! 2 years and he started smoking again. One year after that RIP Dave one Christmas eve, just 60. Oseh shalom bim'romav hu ya'aseh shalom.

I have no idea why people don't give up. The boss consultants treating my OH say it is all-in-the-mind - if you don't want to, you can't. They say that all this niquitin, plastic ciggies and such is baloney 'cos the problem is not there, it is in the mind. Imagine the NHS bill for therapy for all those needing to give up. MInd you if it worked for only 20% guess it would pay for itself. They do say that 70% of people do stop smoking after a serious operation which imho justifies the effort. Those who don't rarely get past 5 years.

I suppose 5/day from more than a packet is an improvement but way to go.

Few work places allow plastic ciggies in the office etc. My local certainly does not. If it has all these problems what's the point?

KIng James was right.

Barbinsglos Report 27 Jan 2013 15:25

Hard isn't it Rollo. My OH knows smoking is going to kill him but he can't give it up. I have discussed it with him lots of times. He already has COPD .
I have known heavy smokers who have given it up just like that. But he can't. He has cut it down a bit and I have been counting the fags he has each day. During this really cold spell he couldn't go outside because he couldn't breath.
Just gotta hope for the best
He wont try any sort of substitute. :-)

I have used them indoors when the weather too bad to go outside. They may look kind of like the real thing, but are larger in circumference & made of a hard plastic.

The patches left red sore areas, the chewing gum/lozenges give me hiccups, so am persevering with them & trying to cut down on the real thing.

Have until Dizzi is well enough to come down to kick the habit.

RolloTheRed Report 27 Jan 2013 15:08

The electronic ciggie is n.b.g. My other half is recovering from a serious cancer op and she says so, still smoking despite everything.

If anybody really knows how to give up I'd really love to know.
I gave up myself donkey's years ago. It was no great deal and I really don't understand the problem.

Only if I don't get some answers life is going to be a bit lonely.
