I followed your instructions which I had written down, but unable to follow them through. Laptop was cleared 12 months ago at PC world by the Tech Guys when I was having trouble. Have decided to wait until next Saturday when my son who lives in Oxfordshire and teaches IT who also set my laptop up when I got it. Thanks for trying to help, I let you know how I get on. The whole lot might go in the household refuse bin, who knows, in the meantime will put my inabilities down to a spell of senior moments. :-D

ok...

Right click on your desktop.
Click personalise.
On the left hand side of the window that opens click on Change Desktop Icons which should be towards top left corner.
New window opens - put a tick next to Recycle Bin and click Ok - et voila - it should now be on your desktop.

I don't really know what I mean, told daughter lappy was a bit slow although I've swept my e-mails and she said but have you emptied you waste basket. Didn't like to plead ignorance. ;-)
