Here's part of the corry I've been trying to have with GR, but as usual, get no-where. How do all you other paying mebers feel?
I cannot understand why your development team constantly make using this site more and more difficult.
First you up-grade the family tree by removing most of the best features and make seeing personal details a chore by needing to open a sliding half window which obscures other relations. Then you think up this stupid 'keepsake' system which is so complicated and uncertain as to whether a picture has been added or not, it makes one sceptical as to whether it's going to work, or not; even requiring shutting down the tree and re-loading again in order to find whether a profile picture has attached itself.
If that wasn't bad enough, try searching for someone on your tree that you are not certain of, someone with a common name, say, Henry Brown. Up comes the list with 15 names. You guess it may be the one born 1815, but there are others born 1815, 16 & 17, and three born 1814. So you make a stab at one of them, but it's not correct. With the new tree you can't go back. You have to re-enter the name and hope you can remember which one it was that you have looked at. And you have to do this time and again until you hit on the right person. Where as, with the old tree and its helpful system you could re-visit your original search without having to re-enter the name, wait while the list is formed, and then make a guess as to where you had got to.
And now, you have chosen to remove searching B, M & Deaths & census years from the drop down options menu, meaning we have to re-enter the person we are searching for each time. This makes researching very laborious and slow, plus it breaks one's train of thought.
I appreciate it is not possible to reply to individual points or even individual complainants, but surely, where alterations to the system are made, or comments are forthcoming from paying members, announcements of such could be made on the home page?
But of course, I doubt anyone at GR has the courage to place the negative as well as positive comments where they can be seen by all, let alone make direct contact with someone who uses the site to build their family tree.

Cedric Brown
PS. Bet these comments don't get shown on the announcements page either?

Dear Cedric
Thanks for your email
I will certainly pass your feedback onto our development and management teams. They're always keen to hear all feedback, and suggestions, from our members, and will always consider all comments and suggestions they receive.
Unfortunately they can't reply personally to each suggestion forwarded to them, but they do take all comments into account when considering any changes to the website.
Thanks again for your views
Kind Regards,
Ann-Marie

Thank you for saying you will pass on my comments. However, it just shows that little, if any, notice is paid to feedback from members. Otherwise, it would have been obvious that my comments related to a facility which has recently been removed and not some idea I have just come up with.
Perhaps it would be an idea to actually respond to messages members send, answering their points directly, rather that the standard reply offering platitudes which are neither helpful or useful.
Also, it should be remembered that as paying members we ought to be asked whether a proposed idea is a good one, or not, before it is forced upon us. Or is it the intention of the site programmers to make researching and building our trees so difficult that we gradually give up and join more dependable sites such as Ancestry?

Hi Cedric, I have just read a post which explains how to search for a name without having to enter the name again via the home page and Historical records . I have just entered a name, which only showed one correct entry in the 1841 census but it did allow me to use the same details and click onto another census. Agree it is an unneccessary change as you have to click a couple of times to get back to the original details.
Using the drop down menu to sort out a person on various census was the best feature of this site for me. I have access to two other sites but always used this one because of that one feature.
I prefer not to print my thoughts on this change-jl
