"As well as comparing DNA from the bones with that of Michael Ibsen, a London-based furniture-maker who is a direct descendant of the king’s sister, Anne of York, they have been subject to carbon dating – which can date bones to between 70 and 100 years – and other studies including environmental analysis."

JoyLouise Report 4 Feb 2013 11:32

Have I got this right?

They're using the DNA of Richard's mother or they're using the current Queen's DNA (or one of her children's DNA) to see if it's compatible with Richard's?

Guinevere Report 4 Feb 2013 11:02

I believe that traced the mitochondrial DNA, so hanky panky makes no difference.

Muffyxx Report 4 Feb 2013 10:51

Does amuse me how the powers that be swore blind they weren't holding up the results to fit in with the ch 4 documentary..then go on to release the results on the very day it's due to air..hmmmmmmmmmm :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Feb 2013 10:45

It's probably like 'look away now' when they announce the football scores :-D

Guinevere Report 4 Feb 2013 10:43

You'll be lucky to get through the day without hearing the result.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Feb 2013 10:41

Some people want to watch the TV programme tonight ;-)

JoyLouise Report 4 Feb 2013 10:39

Thanks! I'll have a peek.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Feb 2013 10:38

Somebody with the surname Ibsen (edit - Michael Ibetson) + various people who wanted to remain anonimous.

You're right about the hanky-panky, but they have taken DNA from various descendent lines. Some of them must be 'true'.

JoyLouise Report 4 Feb 2013 10:32

Whose DNA are they using to test and ensure it is Richard 3?

You'd have to be pretty sure that no hanky panky went on within the family!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Feb 2013 10:17

Listening to it now - gawd, they don't half go on!

It's also on BBC24 news - wondered why I could hear it on stereo!

FootieAngel Report 4 Feb 2013 07:51

I think thats a bit of a spoiler to be fair. I prefer not to know till the end of the programme. Its like telling you whodunnit before reading a book x
