ooh I don't sing them out loud, having hearing aids I don't hit the right notes any more. :-D

I saw the film three weeks ago and I am still waking up singing the songs, and then they are in my head all day. Mind you, no-one else would agree that the sound I make would be considered to be singing :-D

I was very unsure about seeing the stage version, too, but we did go during a weekend trip to London a few years ago. I thought it was brilliant - the staging was superb and the whole thing just swept you away. I'd like to see the film but it's a major expedition getting to a cinema :-(. We usually end up going to the Vue near Bristol as parking is easy, but it's quite a long trip.

have the DVD of the 10th Annivrersary at the Royal Albert Hall, saw the stage show here in Cardiff and saw the film - wonderful, wonderful - the film was spectacular and I have every intention of seeing it again and shall buy the DVD when it comes out

Mr Daff, I think Daff got a bit of pressure from me too to see the show, or got fed up with me going on about it. But she did report back that it was great and she'd go to see it again.

Andrew, I think we all agree that Russell crowe can't sing but that didn't deflect from the singing of the other stars, and the film was very well made, and for me enhanced the stage show, brought home that it was all about the revolution and the senseless loss of lives, they were so outnumbered. In the stage show the action is sort of remote and you are listening mainly to the music (which I love), but in the film the stars are more up close and you can see the pain in their faces.

We have seen the stage show 4 times and both love it, my OH was not keen on going to the film but he thought it was great.

Chris yes it is not a laugh a minute but neither was the subject I suppose. But there is comedy in it too.

Thinking about seeing the film

I'd always wanted to see Les Mis, but Daff didn't fancy it .... not being particularly French minded.....(tongue in cheek,to say the least!). But a few years ago she presented me with a 'package' - tickets to the show at the Bristol Hipp' and overnight stay in Bristol. She was not keen on the former.... ;-)

However, as the show progressed (with probably the best stage production I've ever seen) I became resigned to saying 'Well, yes, it's from this show' to the comment 'I know this song!'.

We were fortunate that Alfie Boe was Valjean, I admit. But it is a production I would recommend to all. Not seen the film, but from above comments, and I was dubious, I will - but don't think you'll beat the live show for this !

Master of the House ? A brilliant piece - you just can't avoid laughing !!!

Andrew I was given a tape of Les Mis in early eighties - and found it depressing - so have no desire to seee/hear it.

I agree Russell Crowe can't sing !!! lol Though I loved everything else about the film !

Andrew Report 2 Feb 2013 22:25

I got dragged along to see it, and to be honest was rather underwhelmed. I know I'll probably be in a minority of one here. I found it far to long. And Russell Crowe can't sing.

:-D :-D I even wake up with the music in my head. Do you hear the people sing is one that keeps reappearing but also I dreamed a dream and Eponime's song when she is dying, not sure what it is called is it A Little drop of rain won't hurt me now.

edit: it is actually called On my own.

My OH was very anti ..but he's finally agreed to come with me to see it...he didn't like the idea of it all being in song...but now he's a bit more familiar with the music he's more up for it !

Must admit I do not fancy the film, but when the trailers are on I love seeing Greenwich being used to protray Paris.

Muffy, I haven't seen the film but have seen the stage production and also have the dvd and I frequently find myself singing songs from Les Mis. Master of the house is one of the ones that seems to stick in my head as well.
Did you enjoy the film?

Muffyxx Report 2 Feb 2013 21:28

Anyone else (who has seen the film) finding themselves constantly either singing or listening to the songs.??? I had *master of the house* going around in my head whilst at Asda this morning...but I can't guarantee I didn't have a little sing outloud at some point lol.
