just out of interest if you were going to london for one day only, and could only do ONE thing, what would it be???

The Crown Jewels and the Tower of London. Expensive, crowded unless you get there as soon as they open, but fabulous to see.

To add - there are so many choices for sightseeing, it's difficult to recommend just one thing.

Possibly Trafalgar Square as virtually everyone has seen it as a back drop on TV, or if they haven't they will be able to say 'I've been there' in the future

Tea with the Queen of course.

yes tower of london sounds fab iv never been there but im intrested in history especially if its a bit gory lol,

The British Museum, mummy room in particular. I have not been for years.

I am fascinated by the Ancient Egyptians and also the Romans. Perhaps thats where I spent previous lives ;-) :-D

Seen most of the "sights" many times, but if allowed only one thing, it would be to walk along the Embankment after dark, on a summers evening :-) watching the lights of the illuminated buildings reflected on the river.

When my son and his friend were about your lad's age, my friend and I took them on a riverboat trip from Westminster to Greenwich to see the 'Cutty Sark.' They both loved that.

If only one thing it would have to be a river cruise :-)

What I'd do......

First I'd get a travel card so you can hop on and off buses tubes all day, then ...

I'd take the number 11 bus from Victoria and try to get the front seats at the top of the bus, the bus passes.....

Westminster Cathedral
Westminster Abbey
Parliament Square
Big Ben
Downing street
Horseguuards parade
Trafalgar Square
Covent Garden (passes by, you cannot see it)
Royal Courts of justice
St Pauls Cathedral, get off there.... then

Look around the St Pauls area, then go to The New Change shopping centre, back of St Pauls, get the lift, great view of St Pauls in the lift, and go to the roof, where you can see a spectacular views of London, The Shard, the wheel, old Bailey, etc etc then....

Go over the Millennium bridge, stopping to take in the wonderful sights, then go left to Borough Market to get yourself some wonderful food, then...

Back over bridge, get the number 11 back, and get on and off at the places above you want to see, or walk to the next place you want to visit. If you get off at Trafalgar Square, walk down The Mall, you'll see the fantastic approach to Buckingham Palace. That should take up a lot of the day, it's all free, except for your travel card.

If you have time, and money, there's the Wheel, great views of London, The Shard, daughter went before it it opened and looks spectacular from the viewing platform, Grandchildren loved it too.

I could go on, and on and on, but I think that's enough:-D

I'd also say if the weathers good, don't spend time inside, there's too much to see to stay indoors :-D

oh lynda very detailed, i was thinking of paying the £30 for the tour guide bus, but who needs it when they have a number 11! that is in with our travel card,

Ooooo Lynda I forgot the travelling. I would be waving frantically to the Emirates as I go past on the train :-D :-D :-D
