Yes you are correct with the response you had however if the person for what ever reason is no longer using the email address that GR hold for them then they will not receive notification of your message,

If you go to your sent messages you will be able to see who has opened your messages,

Most free members who have trees on GR don't realise they can reply to messages

Its anyone's guess how many trees have been abandoned on GR for what ever reason over the years

Hi,

I’m a bit puzzled. When I see the little star in the corner of a name box it will say, typically, “3 search records & 4 tree matches” or something like. When I click the tree matches I see a bit more detail and perhaps 2 of them match my individual. I can then click on each one & send a message to them asking to see their tree – or indeed ask whatever I like.

My question is this – If they are no longer GR subscribers do they get a message from GR saying that there is a message for them but are unable to access their GR Inbox to see or reply to it? Are they no longer able to access their tree but can access & respond to their messages? Or is the situation something else?

I have sent a message to one person with a tree match & she said she was no longer a subscriber but still had access to modify her tree & to answer messages. She successfully gave me access to her tree & I could see that she had changed it to reflect information that I had given her. She was puzzled that she could – and so was I.

I ask these questions because I have sent messages to several tree matches expecting some sort of an answer but have rarely received anything from them. I find it difficult to believe that they my messages would all, (mostly), go unanswered.

Many thanks, Philip.
