Gins you are as cynical as me, no doubt in my mind this is a deliberate ploy to, as you put it, "A good day to bury bad news" scenario ;-)

'A good day to bury bad news'

While we are all distracted (Ha ha ha) by the debate of same sex marriages...........what else are Government 'leaking' out!

eRRolSheep Report 17 Feb 2013 17:27

I guess the issue boils down to equal rights - should the gay community (male or female) be restricted to civil partnerships or should they in theory be allowed to have their union recognised as an actual marriage - nothing to do with the church

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 17 Feb 2013 17:21

I'm on the same wavelength as you Gins - gays already have the option of a civil ceremony - would it really be worth DC gong that step further? not in my opinion

I don't think anyone on here has expressed a feeling of unease with civil partnerships - and neither should they, so why can't it be left at that for the time being - as you say, far more important things going on that affect all of us, whether gay or heterosexual

Gee

Gee Report 17 Feb 2013 16:57

KenSE :-D

As you know from my previous posts, I am all in favour of equal rights to marriage, no matter what sex

One thing does concern me. There is high unemployment, families not able to put food on the table, losing their homes and facing sanctions enforced by JCP

I may be being cynical, but is this debate about same sex marriages just a curve ball to distract from what should really be debated in the commons?

""so presumably David Cameron is prepared to put his party's term in office on the line over this?""

Or maybe he can't fix the economy and this is a good way of letting Ed Milliband have a go.
