I too was taken to one side during a coffee break after having given a marketing presentation when I worked for local government for using the term nitty gritty.
Again, the person said it was related to the slave trade but was unable to back it up.
I was also informed that I should not have asked for black coffee - it is coffee without milk!
It was an extremely PC environment and yet I felt that people were being MORE unPC by making spurious claims and thus highlighting the use of language that was deemed unsuitable.

know what you mean I went through that painful experience too....not nice.... my hair was like thick rope....

every night I had to be on my knees in front of my mother - she had a newspaper on her lap and she went through my hair with a nit comb - it was horrible cos I have very curly hair - qute painful but I was nit/flea free!!!

Unfortunately Ann (and to me Mam's disgust :-( cos she was nipping clean) :-D everyone in the class had caught them. I had very long hair and had to have it cut short :-|....glad you would have played with us :-D
St.Mary's doesn't have a lighthouse keeper d'ya want the job? ;-) :-D

I had a holiday job as an usherette in my teenage years :-)
