Was listening to a discussion about this on the drive down today. What an absolutely brilliant concept.

You get all the benefits of a community gathering, are able to discuss the wonders of the world, life, science etc., and not one peep about god :-D

I can see this expanding countrywide.

They look as if they are enjoying themselves. Nice idea for empty buildings and I think God, if there is no worshipping congregation any more to use the building, would approve.

There are so many ways to learn about the Truth. Best of luck to them.

Stop it with the 'Truth' John I ain't daft and that didn't get past me :-P

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 6 Feb 2013 16:38

Well, as we know from many past discussions, Dawkinites and Christians both talk about facts and "the truth". This gives agnostics a chance to see the merits of both sets of facts and both truths and make up their own minds.

That is why I think God would encourage these atheist gatherings.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Feb 2013 16:46

This is aimed at atheists not agnostics - they have already made up their minds

Great idea I will look for my nearest branch or could that be Bush :-D

stands back watching and waiting to see if the preacher continues to preach :-|

John I am sure Sue is happy for you to contribute to this thread but i will RR you if you try to turn this into a religious thread on the grounds that your trying to wind members up and cause trouble, You have your own thread for religion

Errol. Any atheist or agnostic is welcome into any Christian church in any "public meeting or service" ie one that is not for members only, like a business meeting to discuss the drains..

This, I assume will be the same. Atheist meetings will be public and open and anyone can therefore wander in and hear the merits of atheism.

It is only committed Christians and, I guess, committed atheists, who have largely closed their minds. The vast tranche of people called agnostics have the freedom to learn about God and science as they will.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Feb 2013 17:08

I am more than aware of the workings of the church. You are quite right about closed minds

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 6 Feb 2013 17:38

It's somewhere like minded people can gather, discuss the wonders of the universe WITHOUT unwanted interruptions from some evangelists claiming the wonders to be the preserve of their particular god. What a relief to be able to do that openly and sing Queen songs in place of hymns :-D :-D

eRRolSheep

I couldn't agree more Supercrutch

Where do I sign up for this? SOOOOOOOOO fed up with other peoples gods being brought into perfectly unassociated conversations...can we also sing a bit of Chas N Dave though please :-D

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Feb 2013 17:58

how about "Rabbit" or "Ain't No Pleasing You"?

Just a suggestion, off the top of my head

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 6 Feb 2013 17:59

Yeah either of those...or a few Spurs songs maybe lol x

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 6 Feb 2013 18:07

No football songs missus :-P

I can't remember which Queen songs they played, and everybody sang along, at least the 'congregation' would probably have known all the words. I bet there were no mumblings with just the last word of the line being sung ;-)

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Feb 2013 18:10

hehehe
That happens so often - either that or the more happy clappy churches abandon the old hymns and sing more modern ditties which embarrasses visitors tremendously because they have no idea what the words are let alone the tune

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 6 Feb 2013 18:13

Perhaps next week they can play

Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven
Jimi Hendrix - Angel

Or

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon ??

:-D :-D :-D

Please keep this thread for atheists and their beliefs and practices. Roy has threatened me at 1655 he will rr me for drifting off topic. The last post from Errol contains exactly the type of thing he wanted to rr. Will Roy be brave enough - I doubt it.

What happens outside of atheism should not be discussed here as you have so little knowledge. In same way, I would never dream of dissing atheism or the practices of this Atheist congregation on the Christian thread.

supercrutch Report 6 Feb 2013 18:26

Pardon, would the real John please stand up :-D :-D

There will be NO songs that use references to ANYTHING that could be remotely connected to religion unless I deem it funny.

Devil woman for instance is appropriate, stairway to heaven MrDaff is not. Please take notes :-D
