Thank very much, Elizabeth. Was wondering when it was. Always seems to be quite close to Burns Night (25 Jan). Like to find out what local restauirants are doing :-D

Dear All

Hello

Millions of people are already celebrating the start of the Chinese New year.

The old year of the dragon gave way to the start of the year of the water snake.

In China, there have been firework displays and concerts.

Nearly 200 million people have travelled to be with their families for celebrations
in what is considered the biggest mass human migration on Earth.

Children receive red envelopes with money inside.

Red and gold lanterns are hung in the home and festivities centre on being with family and friends and enjoying celebration foods.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac are

the rat,

the ox,

the tiger,

the rabbit,

the dragon,

the snake,

the horse,

the ram,

the monkey,

the rooster,

the dog

and the pig.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The snake corresponds to the western astrological sign of Taurus and this year out of the 5 elements of metal, water, fire, earth and wood, it will now be a
water snake year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Mine is the wisdom of the ages.

I hold the keys to the mysteries of life.

Casting my seeds on fertile ground.

I nurture them with constancy and purpose.

My sights are fixed.

My gaze unchanging.

Unyielding, inexorable and deep,

I advance with steady, unslacked gait,

the solid earth beneath me.

I am the snake".

- Chinese proverb.

Take gentle care all
Best wishes
