Thanks, it is rather lovely. And,for a change of mood, one of my favourities :-D

One Perfect Rose

A single flow'r he sent me, since we met.
All tenderly his messenger he chose;
Deep-hearted, pure, with scented dew still wet -
One perfect rose.

I knew the language of the floweret;
'My fragile leaves,' it said, 'his heart enclose.'
Love long has taken for his amulet
One perfect rose.

Why is it no one ever sent me yet
One perfect limousine, do you suppose?
Ah no, it's always just my luck to get
One perfect rose.

Dorothy Parker

WB Yeats - When You Are Old and Grey

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

You know I think the world of you -
I've told you so before.
But every day - in every way
I love you more and more.
For to know you is to love you -
and to love you is to say
You'll always be my sweetheart -
Just as you are today.

My first card to my wife - alas I am not so sentimental today - lol!!!!!! ;-) ;-) ;-)
(But hey! - I still remember the words!!!!!)

Dear Ann in Glos and All

Hello

One of my favourite poems:

How Do I Love Thee?

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of being and ideal grace.

I love thee to the level of every day's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for right.

I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

By Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth,
xx

Carol, had the traditional wording of that at our marriage. And across the front of our Baptist church behind the pulpit were the words love never Faileth. You can imagine the nudges thatw ent on among our group of 13 - 15 year olds when we were that age.

To Laughing Boy

You made me smile
you crocodile
and so my fate was sealed
in spite of tears
and wasted years
my heart is still unhealed.
And would I change
you if I could
who brought both pain and joy?
Not for a million pounds to spend
my darling laughing boy.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

Thought it said Listen to the Wum by Rod McKuen.

Perhaps we will all love each other by Thursday. Forgive and forget what is past (though still struggling to forgive Ireland rugby team for first half performance last week).

And love all your neighbours (even those you don't like much) as you would want them to love you. A humanist thought.

My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favourite work of art

Is your figure less than greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?

But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentines day

Is your figure less than greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?

But don't you change one hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentines day

Listen to the Warm
By Rod McKuen
36
I live alone.
It hasn't always been that way.
It's nice sometimes
to open up the heart a little
and let some hurt come in.
It proves you're still alive.

I'm not sure what it means.
Why we cannot shake the old loves from out minds.
It must be that we build on memory
and make them more that what they were.
And is the manufacture
just a safe device for closing up the wall?

I do remember.
The only fuzzy circumstance
is something where-and how.
Why, I know.
It happens just because we need
to want and to be wanted too,
when love is here or gone
to lie down in the darkness
and listen to the warm.

15
Bend down and touch me with your eyes.
Make every morning hold a new surprise,
then when I stumble from my sleep
yours is the first face that I’ll see.

And as I amble through the day
Be there to guide me all along my way.
If I should falter and fall
Your shoulder’s near enough to touch.

Follow me from darkness into light
Then we’ll go back again
Through every midnight.

Bend down and touch me with your eyes.
Let every evening hold a new surprise.
So when I tumble into sleep
Yours is the last face that I see.

How about some romantic love poems/verses.

Surely can't be anything controversial in that can there?

I have a couple to kick off with.
