FOUR MILLION adults have never worked in their lives

As I should be doing something else, I thought I'd waste time looking into this..

But before I do, any comments???/

Figures include disabled unable to work so that should take out some of the sting to the story when read through. x

Does not surprise me , plenty lazy people out there they go to UNI then sit back , claim there are no jobs when they are not even looking , some just do little part time jobs , time the parents motivated them to get the career they chose to study ,.

some are career students - end one course and then join up for another

good friend of mine has a son who is fifty in July - never had a job in his life so never paid tax or national insurance - sponges off her, lives with her, enjoys all the benefits she pays for - she's stupid and has doormat written acrosss her face - she'll never change and neither will he - she is disabled and he claims care allowance for her though he is never in

however, she informs me he is getting married in July - goodness knows what the potential wife is like - I canlt wait to find out

Okay, will now try to d-bunk the theory.
Firstly, they use the word 'nearly', so automatically take off half a million - 3500000
we can ignore the retired. They wouldn't be working anyway, so that leaves 3295000

If they're still studying - they shouldn't be working, and since when did a Saturday job become compulsory? Although I expect the governement adds it on to theor number of employed, to keep unemployment figures down. But, as it comes under the auspices of being a paper boy/girl it should be ignored.
Total 2295000

There are over eleven million people with a limiting long term illness, impairment or disability in Great Britain
Around 6 per cent of children are disabled, compared to 15 per cent of working age adults* and 45 per cent of adults over State Pension* age in Great Britain.

15% of 11 million = 1650000
Of these. about 48% are working = 79200
which leaves 1580800 disabled adults not working - possibly not able to work. Deduct them from the number gives the grand total of 3295000.

Interestingly, the Office for National Statistics said there were 2.49 million people unemployed.
Not sure on my adding/taking away, but it looks like the Daily Mail's talking a load of wotsits again!!

I just don't understand how any parent can let their their kids go to UNI then let them loll about all day .. but then some parents do the same thing ..

You can knock off most of the

I imagine the majority of them are women who went straight from school to marriage and 'worked' at home bringing up children.

Typical Mail, they use of the term "Top 10 Jobless cities" pinpointed on the map...which then shows 'Tower Hamlets', which last time I looked was not a city!

They may also include the older generation of women, who helped out at home until the time of their marriage, then like women at that time stayed at home being a wife & mother.
There are also those who have not worked as they have cared for disabled parents.

It does depend on how they decided on the words 'never worked'.

Hey aivlS, I agree with you , tho you don't let your kids go to Uni ...you have to pay for the pleasure, unless you want the kids get into a huge debt with Student loans for everything..

We paid the tuition fees and housing costs for ours but suggested they take out a loan for their living expenses.( they weren't getting it all that cushy !!! )

They both had jobs while they were in Uni, temporary ..obviously to fit around their studies / lectures.

They are fortunate both to have good jobs now,
But had they decided to sit on their rear ends after Uni they would have had a firm kick in the same place !

AnnC~~ that lady friend of yours sure does have 'Doormat ' on her forehead !!!,it is shameful that he claims some sort of carers allowance for her , when he's hardly there....that is fraudulent :-|

Well that's about 7% so it means that 93% of the population are working. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Most of these people are housewives who have never been in paid employment. Depends I guess if you reckon that to be work or not.

Although it is probably not PC to say so a child under 3 or 4 needs its mum at home. Thatcher's reforms which took away a system biased towards families have reaped a whirlwind of pain and trouble.

I myself cannot think of any job tougher than a mother if you don't have any domestic help. Absolutely typical of the Mail to distorts or misuse stats to support their hobby horse of the day.

OTOH my mother's old Daily Mail's are perfect for the cat litter :-)

what really annoys me is that people of my generation who have never paid a penny in contributions & have lived all their lives on State benefits end up being paid the same pension as someone who has worked & contributed all their lives.
Surely a 2 tier system of pensions would be fairer. DWP know whose contributions have been paid & whose have been credited.
I understand that there are sick & disabled people who can´t work. Obviously they are an exception, but it can´t be impossible to work out who would be entitled to what.
