I think its partly through parents but I was almost 7 when my grandad left me he lived just around the corner it scares me that I can't remember his face. I was 4 when the uncle who lived with us passed away Iremember him ever so clearly has I do my great grandparents. Still waiting on a photo getting anxious now.

A number of years ago I was contacted through GR by a second cousin - I was thrilled. We shared paternal great grandparents and he knew more information than me regarding dates of birth and death.

One day I opened an email and he had written "you probably have this photo but thought I'd send in on just in case". I downloaded it and just couldn't believe my eyes. It was a photo of our great grandparents with their very large family including my grandfather sitting on his father's knee. I cried everytime I looked at it and when I showed my brother he also cried. My father never got to see it :-(

I searched for over thirty years to find my paternal grandparents,my Dad was given away at birth also Barb.

I did eventually find them together on the 1911 census and have since discovered grandmother's b. & d. and grandfather's birth ( still searching for date of his death).

Have never seen any photos. or likeness of either and I would be thrilled if I could. I live in hope

I had been trying to find my maternal grandmother for over 20yrs. My mum never knew her as she was given away at birth.and father unknown.
Cutting a very very long story short I received some photos of her albeit when she was elderly.and all the anger just melted away and I cried and cried .

Until reading threads like this I never realised how lucky I was. I have more photos than I can count of both parents, quite a lot of both sets of grandparents and photos of six of my Great Grandparents. I have a golden wedding photo of my maternal grandparents, a silver wedding photo of my paternal grandparents and a wedding photo of my paternal grandparents and my parents.

I knew three of my grandparents, my paternal grandfather died the year before I was born. I have a very bad faded photo of me with my paternal Gt Grandmother but I don't remember her. :-)

It wouldn't be much good to you, Hayley, what with no kidneys and one lung...tsk tsk :-(

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 14 Feb 2013 19:02

Maybe if your parents and other older family members talked about your Grandfather thats why you can remember so much about him.

I have 3 photos of my Dad, 1 of my Nana I have seen one of my Granddad and a paper cutting only of my other Granddad and I would sell a kidney to see one of my Grandma, all 3 of the latter died before I was born, my Nana when I was 11 what a live wire she was :-D

I would sell both kidneys and a lung to see both sets of Grandparents wedding photos if there was any. :-D

It seems pretty obvious to me that the OP was reported, not because of the content but because of "who" posted it. :-|
And I dont believe I am the only one that suspects this is the case also. ;-)

It's often been said that anyone who reports a posting should have the courage to say WHY they did so.

I admire those who have strong enough to say that something has offended their sensibilities but, unfortunately, there are so many reports these days, that it looks as though there is a mischief maker around. A mischief maker without a backbone.

Exactly what pleasure they get out of it is beyond many of us - unless they just like causing trouble of course.

There are some postings which occasionally make my RR finger itch, but I haven't given in to the temptation for over 3 years :-D

KenSE, I can understand that and agree that these personal comments should be removed. However some of the RRs have not been personal or defamatory just someone wanting to control the threads. If the person RRing is really so upset, shocked or annoyed they should be honest enough to say what they intend to do, it seems rather cowardly to me to do this anonymously. I really don't know the answer but it certainly seems to cause ructions on here

It may not seem democratic Paula, but if someone posted personal or defamatory things about you, you would want it removed immediately and not have to wait for a majority to agree to its removal.

Good to see that your OP is back.

My Grandmother Martha died of TB when Mum was 3, it was not until she was in her 70's that a relative of her mother's found a photo of a young Martha. It was treasured by my Mum.
