Does anybody know whether on a marriage certificate you can enter the Fathers name and the step fathers name? I have an instance where I think both surnames have been used.

Thanks

Never heard of that, But i would think not, can you give the details you have that led to your thinking both would be on the marriage cert

Roy

Edit, Just a thought did your info come from the marriage index? if so then when the surname of the bride states two names eg, Smith or Jones that usualy indicates the bride has a previous marriage

I have one where the bride's father is named and her stepfather is a witness.

Is this the sort of thing you mean?

I have seen some strange things on certificates, I have a birth certificate that has a statement on it which says that the husband of the mother is not the child's father.

The father's name was Broad and the Step fathers name was Godfrey. On the marriage certificate under father it states Godfrey Broad (deceased) both were at the date of the marriage.

Could be a big coincidence

Father was Godfrey Broad & Step father ???? Godfrey

The father's name was Abel Broad and the Step father's name was George Godfrey. On the marriage certificate under father it states Godfrey Broad (deceased) - Sorry for the confusion.

I think that when the question was asked "fathers name" their was some confusion? and so the names was written as it was understood

other wise it would state father; Abel Broad and George Godfrey (deceased) which i don't believe would be allowed,

In your situation, then its quite possible that the two 'fathers' have been merged. An example from my own family.

when we got the marriage cert for my OH Gt Grandmother we were surprised to find she named both her father and her Uncle who adopted her when her mother died when she was about 4 years old.

So I see no reason why a father and step father should not be listed, but agree it is not common
