If you are married, does it bother you that you are referred to as a partner to your husband/wife instead of being referred to as husband/wife?

I'm old enough for partner to mean someone you are in business with, so it sounds strange to my ears.

I refer to him as my husband.

Never really thought of it before, but now you ask......I prefer husband or wife if one is married, but I suppose 'partner' is better than cohabitee if a couple live together.

the other night she called me something else without realising our 19 yr old son was behind her

If people do not like the term partner why do so many say they are 'partners for life'?

When you are not married (like me & oh) partner is the only term you can use

Someone totally confused me the other day by introducing someone as their partner and they meant business partner :-S :-S

I am a Ms. - but as a divorcee I have a problem with the Mrs.

And I like the anonimity of the Ms. tag

Men are only ever Mr. which does not give any indication to their status.

No one has ever referred about my husband , to me , as my partner in real life or cyber world,

Real life ...they know I'm married and refer to him by name or your husband.

Cyber world..the peeps I talk to know I'm married and don't use the term partner to me some know his name and may use the initial of his name

I don't mind official letters referring to Partner in their questions on forms..they don't know my current status ,if I'm married ,cohabiting with someone, be it of the opposite or same sex.

I can see those who have no knowledge of your status using partner,,,,,as you maybe Mrs.but in a single relationship.

Forms now use partner more and more.....just cross it out and put husband or wife. :-D

I agree with Piglet's Pal about the anonymity of using 'Ms'.

I was Ms when I was married, and Ms now I'm divorced. It doesn't seem right that a man's title didn't indicate his marital status but a woman's did (pre Ms).

I assume Ms, Mrs, and possibly even Miss are all just variant abbreviations of 'Mistress'?

I'm Ms as well. And will be until men start using a term of address that says whether or not they are married. ;-)

I prefer to use the words husband and wife because, to me, a partner means a business partner.

However, if I was unmarried but in a full/long term relationship, what would we call each other? Boyfriend and girlfriend sounds a little odd for those of more mature years :-0
I suppose it could be Lovers, but that's too much information in my opinion, so unless someone can think up a better title, the word Partners is at least understood and appears to be the accepted term.

As for the Ms v Mrs v Miss thing.
Well I'm a Ms. That's because I didn't take my husband's surname upon marriage, preferring to keep my own. :-)

I am his wife, he is my husband. Partner is someone you are in business with. Ergo, I am old :-D :-D

I don't really mind either, but am also a Ms, I agree with Kucinta that a woman's marital status should be in her name when her husband's isn't.

Re marriage I am reminded of a friend, who isn't married and when buying a length of wood asked of it to cut to size.

The male assistant suggested that her husband should be able to do it. My friend replied that it seemed rather excessive to get married just to get a piece of wood cut!!

When I was married husband/wife was appropriate, I was happy to me addressed as Mrs. As a widow I retained the Mrs just for convenience. In my new relationship when the need arises we refer to each other as partner, not really my preferred form of address,simply because I do not know of another one...... Any suggestions would be welcome and apprciated

Isn't it funny how many of us are a bit miffed at being called a partner when married? I doubt I'd have an objection to being called partner if I wasn't married, but seeing as we made the effort, husband /wife it is :-D

As for what to call each other Paula, how about.... the love of my life, it'd turn a few heads :-D

No I dont like the term partner, my husband is just that, Husband , and i'm his wife :-D
