Wonder what happened to Stephen's thread. I would love to have seen if anybody commented on the suggestiveness of the trade names Genes Reunited and Bright Solids late last night. Perhaps not.

But what about this:

A baby once was christened, the parson said "well, well"
He isn’t like his mother or his father you can tell
Who does the child remind you of? And the choir began to yell,
"Oh, it comes in handy being a handy man"

A girl gave me a gold watch, I said "it’s rather light
It’s got no works inside it, now surely that’s not right"
She said "now don’t you worry, I’ll give you the works tonight"
Oh, I comes in handy being a handy man

I went to mend a bath once, imagine my surprise,
When the outline of a female inside the bath I spies
I thought I’d better make quite sure, but the soap got in my eyes
Oh, it comes in handy being a handy man

Anyone know who wrote that. I am shocked :-0 :-0 :-0

Here's another clue:

Now I know a girl who was putting on weight,
In a spot where it just shouldn’t be
So I said to Nellie, "Now you rub your – ankle,
With Auntie Maggie’s Remedy."

And two excerpts from this person's poetry that would even shock PorkiePie:

When Count Popinski popped in there one day, he felt rather gay
But she said "Now you popout-ski."

Six Fan Dancers did their dance, six Fan Dancers bold.
They only had five fans - so what? Oh! didn't the wind blow cold?
:-0 :-0

Is the poet
a. John Betjeman?
b. Christina Rossetti? or
c. Ted Hughes?

Have just noticed some Max Miller jokes. No way would he get past Miss Prim on this board. I daren't repeat half a dozen I found as they are far far worse than Roy's original cockroach joke :-0 :-0

Lol John, are you trying to get an RR?

Ann. I think a lot of this stuff was written around the time of WW2 when people were pretty miserable and needed a chuckle. Certainly no role for levity on these boards;-)

if you was on the real naughty step John you wouldnt be able to post at all.

Its probably because Micheal le Vile and Peter Adamson aka Kevin Webster and Len Fairclough have both charged with child sex offences one this week the other 30 yrs ago, I didnt see the post so couldnt give you my opinion if I thought it was offencesive or not .

Roy has posted this morning. Naughty step to me means being told off by Nanny and having to sit for a bit on naughty step and not try and post anything whimsical abouty fictional characters for a few days. Had no problem with being reported (some people read posts in a unique way) but am surprised that Nanny gave me a smack this time

Not being able to post is like detention. Sitting in a room by yourself writing lines (or getting on with life away from Genes chat for a while). Not reached that stage yet.:-D

The naughty step is very cold I have my own cushion for when I am in there which used to be often but I am a good girl now , we would often be banished their in groups so we send out for suppiles, ( a thread would be posted) , after amass row normally when signalling our return it would be announce we were all on the train back and normally we would loose someone on the journey home and then have to send out a seach party which then ended in chauos or then diving in to the nearest pub.
All done in good fun and pure fantasty entertained us during the long winter months.

When I first started posting on GR 7 years ago you would of really have to have overstepped the mark as you was banned from posting for 8 weeks. I never reveived one of them.
Then GR revised them and introduced " cooling off periods " 24 hrs 1 week a month bans I have had a few of them. These mainly happened after WW365 had broken out and a row had accured, the spats you see now on GR are nothing compared to them.
Again it was revised, 3 strikes and you are out account removed I have recieved one of them as well :-D

Edited :-(

Thanks Hayley. THat was very helpful to me as I have not had any of the 3 strikes against me yet. Quite a few smacks (a couple deserved). I am just very shocked this morning to have been smacked for a harmless little ditty about fictional characters in a soap. Probably most harmless post on thread.

Now if I was to tell my little ditty about Fireman Sam and Bella, I would be off for 8 weeks and deserve it ;-)

Friends, Romans, countrymen, len' us your ears. Do not draw a veil. I never thought Deirdre was that innocent of her crimes either.

Yes, suppose you are right, oh Peshwari Eminence. (John draws up a fluffy cushion and sulks) :-( :-( :-(
