I am sure I saw in paper yesterday a man of 92 had a grandfather born 1798.

When he was born (1920 presumably) his father was 69 (therefore born c 1850). And grandfather would have been about 52 therefore when his father was born.

Mine was born 1886. Anybody beat that?

Mine died when I was 7 in 1953. So over a century since your grandfather died!!! That must be some sort of record in itself, Shirley. :-) :-)

Yes indeed I would have known mums dad as he died in 1939 but have no recollection of him as I was only a toddler

I do remember my hubbys grandad though he was Michael Carey born 1874 in Kilgarven Ireland. When we were courting! an old fashioned phrase , we would go to see his grandad & grandma . Michael had such a broad Irish accent I couldnt understand what he said. I got so embarrassed at keep saying pardon that I developed a stragedy of saying yes & no and hoping It was in the right place.

Michael Carey died the day before our daughter was born in 1958

My paternal grandfather was 31 when he died .being washed overboard from the vessel Port Logan on route from Melbourne to Bremen. I have the ships log detailing the incident and a marine death cert for. him

My Dads Father was born in Ireland in August 1884 and died in 1932. Dads mum died a year later in 1933, my Dad was born in 1920, the eldest child and his Brothers and Sister after. They were all orphans and the exception of my Dad put in catholic orphanages. Dad was sent to work. The stories my Aunt, and Dad told were heartbreaking. My Dad was 43 when I was born.

Maternal born 1867, died the year I was born.

Paternal born 1871 died 1958. I can remember him well, he always wore a waistcoat, had a watch & watch-chain with a gold acorn hanging from it.

My Father was born in 1905, so was as old as some people on here grandfathers :-D

Three of my grandparents were born in the 1870's and one in 1884. I only knew the youngest one.

One my husband's side we have a photo of his mother as a baby with the preceeding 3 generations of mothers. The oldest of the generations was one born in 1836. She did look like a battleaxe!

Think 1858 is record so far, Sue in Leeds :-D

I was surprised when Katherine Jenkins was looking at her family history recently. Her father was born 1927 or 1924. A generation older than her mother. :-)

Grandfather of this elderly man (must have seen it in Mirror on Friday) could have fought at Trafalgar!!!!
