GR, please clarify "first member video".

Where is She Wray's video, please? I cannot find it; there used to be a link to it on the home page of the site, and I was under the impression that her video was the first member video.

Does it really matter who was first?

~Lynda~ Report 19 Feb 2013 21:49

Ohhh is there a prize for being first at posting anything on here? If there is, I'm hoping it's something in a large brown envelope, could you send mine in the post as I was the first person to post on GR :-D

Edit> By the way does , does Susanne post under her name, or does she use another ? Would be nice to know if we "know" her :-D

Well done Suzanne.
Do we know Suzanne by that name on the boards?

GR - why must you have that tinny music playing throughout the video? It's not only incredibly irritating but rather distracts the viewer from what Suzanne is saying :-)

well done susanne, :-D

Many ancestors added to my tree since then to Bob, plus 3 extra Grandchildren, and 11 birthdays :-D

Frankly not got the foggiest idea who she is

SylviaInCanada Report 20 Feb 2013 01:44

It's SuSanne, not SuZanne

just one of the many confusions with names on here

I do know who she is ..........

she does post on the Boards, and has complained about the other helpers on several occasions

......... but she does not help on the Boards .................. think she sends pms secretly behind the scenes.

I did not like her Hot Tip ..................

"put everyone's names in your tree .............. cousins, siblings, their children"

Living people should NOT BE ON TREES in the public arena.

~Lynda~ Report 20 Feb 2013 08:48

Susanne aside, I don't think it matters if you don't post on the boards or not, you can help/be helped via pm's, I've often had pm's from people I've never seen on the boards.

As for who's on your tree, we all do it differently :-D

Kense Report 20 Feb 2013 09:02

According to the figures GR used to put on the front page, there are about ten times as many PMs sent as messages are posted. So I suspect helping by PM is a lot more common than helping by the boards.

Obviously the boards excel when disseminating information of a more general nature.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 20 Feb 2013 11:14

I think the point about posting on the boards is that they are 'Community' boards, where members help each other out by working together......as a Community. If people are helping purely by pms, then it defies the very nature of the boards.

There are often comments from the regular, experienced helpers on here, to the fact that they prefer NOT to receive pm's when helping someone as it complicates the issue for them - unless the info is of a personal nature of course.

I do a great deal of pm'ing because of the messages I send to advise people of their replies but, other than that, I would imagine the majority of pm's is of a personal nature - between friends.

Could the Team with the permission of the member include their board name as it would save any confusion as to who they are.

If She Wray did a video, sorry can not remember it, then the statement by GR is incorrect.

I seem to think that Sheila Wray appreared on a TV programme which I saw quite a few years ago to talk about her family history (though can't remember what programme) and wonder if this is getting confused with a video she supposedly made for GR.

Joy

Joy Report 20 Feb 2013 16:05

Sue, the video definitely used to be on the home page of GR.

Also, there was an article about She in Your Family Tree magazine; maybe at about the same time that the video was made?

I found Susanne fairly easy to understand, she did speak quite fast and that meant I lost a couple of words at the end of her sentences sometimes. But otherwise her voice was clear. Her working area was a lot tidier than mine though. Well done Susanne.

Joy, It was just a thought. I'm sure you are right. I never saw the video, but distinctly remember seeing her on TV.
