I don't care how I help or get help Sylvia, and not everyone wants to be part of a community.
I often ask for help on here, but I also ask help from elsewhere, depends on what it is I want help with, and how long I can stay on here. I am passionate about my family history, but appreciate some people just want to drift in and out of it, so how we do it is up to us, there is no right or wrong or wrong way, it's completely up to the individual.

By the way I understood Susanne, and well done to her for doing the video :-D

Help via PM was not talked about on that Video, so not relavant in this case, She clearly stated for people to go to the community boards for help/advice where she or someone like her will be their to help

Good point Roy

PMing 'help' limits the 'objective' help to just one person, the more people that help gives a broader view

In the past, I’ve seems some helpers give totally wrong info, if the receiving person is new to this, they may take that info as 'red'

If I'm offered help via pm, I'll take it :-D

I ask for help on Find Ancestors but have mentioned before on GR that I do receive and give help via pm, email or FB.

Once of the reasons is that the information may be quite sensitive and isn't for all and sundry to read.

As long as any request isn't made both privately and on the boards, therefore wasting peoples' time, I cannot see the problem.

Sue, If the enquiry is sensitive then it usualy includes into about living people and that should be stated at the outset

The enquiry should also be on find living relatives board and not the find ancestors board to save any confusion

Have spoken to She; and yes, the video used to be on the home page of GR. So it will be somewhere in the site still.
